Had a quick idea. If some one cared to look into the actual logistics involved in setting up a way for SL money to go straight to a charitable organization, then I propose we could set up some "Charity Shops". We could sell items like "pink ribbons" for cancer, "yellow ribbons" for our troops, "LiveSTRONG" bracelets for Lance Armstrong's foundation. We could link the sale of these items straight to the organization? If there's intrest I would love to assist in laying the keystone for such an endeavor. The options here I belive are limitless. Just an idea for those how would like to give back and help with what could be a very innovative new thing to "online games".

Yepyep!!! Awsome job to everyone involved in Vertu. I guess these are the folks I should be talkin' to since they know how to get the job done But I was thinking more along the lines where you could have tike a vending machine in your shop or club where you could purchase different items for different causes at any time. Yes I realize you cando it on your own but think of it this way maybe. Your chillin at Pixal Dolls, buys a fly ass tux for ??? $350, lookin at yout $L, got $50 to spare, ohh wait!!!!, check out this little vender in the shop, I can grab a "LiveStrong" bracelet to go with it. Instant gratification that you did your good deed for the day, and an item to wear that lets others know what a charitable and "VERTUous" type person you are. I believe this would open it up a little for more organizations to benifit and but more awareness out there for SL's to run into on a day to day basis?!?

Jonny, That's why we buy the special VERTU fly ass tux for $500 at Pixel Dolls. Please check out VERTU, they do what you are asking. They have given money to several worthy organizations. I am not saying that there isn't room for more, but please do some research into what they are doing. (edited to remove snark)

Another thing you have to be careful of, when raising funds in the name of a specific charity, is whether or not the charity will allow you to attach its name to your fundraising efforts. I know that Jade Lily had some problems some months back with money raised for, I believe, the American Cancer Society. In fact, this charity officially asked Jade not to raise money in their name in SL. Jade published the letter from the group in forums, but I can't seem to find that posting, for some reason.
Anyway, I, too, would recommend talking to both the VERTU folk, specifically Bhodi Silverman, and Jade Lily; they both have experience with setting up this type of venture in SL.

Yay VERTU We're a perpetually under-staffed organization, volounteers, ideas always welcome Our current status is we're in the middle of a re-organization, and we're trying to figure out how best to manage VERTU. The last campaign we ran was disaster relief for Florida hurricaine victims - we were able to raise over US$3000. Previous campaigns were raising money for Heifer International, and the Electronic Freedom Foundation. A brief history of charity in LL. Once upon a time there were two charity organizations (please correct me if I'm wrong), Lindens For Life, headed by Jade Lily and VERTU. The Lindens For Life was very successful in raising money for the American Cancer Society, but they had some problems when dealing directly with the ACS. (As it turns out, it's harder than you might think to raise money for charity. It's not just a matter of "we want to give you money." Shortly after that campaign, L4L merged with VERTU, and continued using the VERTU name, and was lead by Bhodi Silverman. Jade Lily departed VERTU after the Heifer campaign, and she now spends her time managing the SL Library project I believe.
