Zematt and Moritz are full of builds of ice sculptures and winter holiday traditions - a Burning Life kind of expo created by SL residents. Check it out and post your pictures and comment here. Check Top Picks for a landmark. The expo ends on December 31.

Unfortunately...there was a big ol' box obstructing things. I asked what they were making for the festival and they said its a secret...yeah...right...pffffft.

I've found the area to be much less laggy when there's not an event nearby, so try visiting at a time when the map isn't stacked with people icons.
As for pics of the sculptures, I've put lots of them in my last three blog entries (see link below if you're interested). but I still havn't covered everything.
As for comments, I thought it was cool that everyone who applied in time got a chance to create stuff, with a generous prim limit.

I haven't been on much lately, otherwise I would've posted to this thread sooner.

I very much enjoyed the opportunity to take part in the Winter Expo. I'm on a Basic Membership account, and don't generally have a great deal of time to spend in SL. However, I did have some spare time over the holidays to challenge myself. When I originally signed up for a parcel of 512 M2 I was expecting a prim limit of around 100 or so, and had a less ambitious build in mind. When I found out we were allowed to use up to 1600 prims, I decided to rethink my contribution to something more elaborate. Since this was the first time I'd ever attempted to build a sculpture of this kind and had a bit of a learning curve, I ended up spending about a week and a half completing my project, using about 336 prims. Although I learned a lot and had fun creating, I was a little disappointed with the short notice of receiving all the info about the plot and prim limit only a few days from the Expo's opening day. I wasn't able to complete my sculpture until a week into the event, which was then, mid way through.

Overall, It seems the Expo was a success, in spite of excessive lag and a sim crash. There were so many awesome displays. I enjoyed the wide variety of style and creativity, and would be hard pressed to pick any favorites.
Well done, to all who participated.

Unfortunately, I never got around to taking any pics at the Expo, but did come across this one in Tanaquil Karuna's Blog. Looks like a lotta prims haven't rezzed yet! :p

The "Old Man Winter" sculpture I created for the Expo is currently on display in two different locations. One is in Nowall, about 100 M up on a shelf...

...and the other is in Nautilus, standing on the ground.

As you can see from the close-up image, for the snow particles, I used photographs of real snowflakes.
