I have just been informed the voice commands create active scripts, which create lag. I have a request for designers - particularly furniture and building designers.
can the voice commands be avoided? can hide/show become a clickable command? can the blue notification menus be used if furniture is more complicated than that (for example - hide/show, change/pose, change colour colour)? perhaps clicking or the blue notification menus can be used to turn on and off Listening scripts?
i'm not a scripter at all. but as a sim owner and landlord, i realized that all this furniture in every house on every lot, with this obsession with cool voice activation, and with the general obliviousness of nonscripting people like me of the effects, dozens of sims are being grounded to a halt.
now players have huge troubles and disputes over this but the problem could be stopped at the source if scripters and designers worked together to create low lag products.
perhaps vendors could notify players of active scripts in their advertising. "Low Lag! No Active Scripts!" could become a sales feature for scripted items. A notecard dispenser at stores selling scripted items could be useful for noobs.
of course we need active scripts in SL, but we should avoid them when they are superfluous, right?

I very much like CrystalShard Foo's poseball script. It's FREE, efficient, and configurable to respond to clicks to show/hide while letting active listens be an option. You can set the listen to a private channel as well. If anyone wants a copy of the newest version, feel free to IM me. Great fun for your furni!

Reverie uses clickable hide/show and reposing. People are so used to saying "show" or "hide". Water actually has a scripted object at the store that whispers to people they need to click the furniture whenever they say show or hide lol. There are signs but often people don't read those. I guess people think it's more convenient but I personally would rather click.

PoseCubes pleasantly allows voice commands for a high level of customizability and "realism", but only when people are sitting. That was my main lag improvement.
Now if I can just get them released! LOL

LMAO I think this is all rather funny to be honest. The day animations came out I had two scriptors working on the now noted "animation" balls that many people use in their furniture. Even back then I was very concience of "Active" scripts. Thing is the pose animation script had one issue and that was it only allowed all the poses to reference the same location for each pose so if the animation was off there was no way to move the pose into position without the avatar getting up and resitting down. Ironically, looking back on it you know that script was never active. It only activated once the avatar sat down much like a vehicle responds to commands once you board it. Were it not for that aspect of the singular reference position for each pose I would have marketed it. I didnt want to do the "Pose" ball thing cause at the time I thought it was stupid. Funny how things come around full circle. Anyway Ciest La Vie.
