Yeah, it's fucked again.

I pay Vodafone about the same amount each month as I do SL. Vodafone somehow manage to keep alive a network of thousands of little radio transmitters, covering the entire country with telephone, text messaging, pictures, 300kbps internet, live video, 99.9% of the time. I've only once had the mobile network break down on me, for about half an hour in the four years I've used it.

If Vodafone went down half as much as SL's much smaller computer network, I'd switch to Orange, as would millions of customers. SL has no competition - and therein lies the problem.

First my internet connection is down (ice storms). After waiting 8 hrs for that to get corrected, I still cant get into SL. I neeeed my SL fix!

has anyone started to wonder about today? has anyone tried logging in to any other online MMOs?

i've had login (and server stability) problems today with World of Warcraft, City of Heroes AND Second Life!!!

...man, i bet Cereal Killer is behind this. or maybe Lord Nikon? i swear, those hacker kids..

oh, wait.. sorry.. i mean "4/-\xx0r k!|)zzz"

but seriously, this is the first time i have experienced such a widespread server problem. it does make one wonder.. yes?

The login queue this afternoon (well, it's afternoon for me, anyway) was due to an errant statistical query on the production database. This resulted in logins getting backed up as the DB was busy doing things that it shouldn't have been doing.

Once the query was killed off, the login queue took about 10 minutes or so to drain.
