The recent laws passed in the election negating the legal status for "unmarried" couples, also had the side effect of throwing out the domestic violence law that requires the person being abused to be a “person living as a spouse.” http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=200550123037Well done, I must say.

From: Neehai Zapata Congrats! You prevented the filthy homos from marrying I object strongly to the depiction of homosexual individuals in this way. It must be recognised that your sexual preference makes no difference at all.

Soap and water once in a while could have prevented this from happening.

Actually, Neehai, if you lived in Ohio, like I do, you would have seen a fairly large (though obviously not large enough) coalition of Republican and Christian groups who were AGAINST Issue 1 here, for these very reasons. I did not vote for it, and I know that my church was part of a network of "conservative Christian" churches trying to spread the truth about Issue 1.
It not only affected domestic violence cases like this one, but also delved into adoption procedures, common-law marriages and a whole list of other areas that made the law a very big mistake.
