What's the consensus -- official as well as unofficial -- about the practice of posting ads in the forums? I'm not talking about using sigs or posting in response to a question -- both of those practices seem straightforward and uncontroversial. I'm referring to starting a new thread for the purpose of announcing a new business or a special promotion, which I see has been done on a limited basis in the past. If special-case business announcements are permissible, what is the approprate forum for that? Projects? General? Events? Thanks, Kelwyn "It is better to ask for forgiveness than permission" --Admiral Grace Hopper [although in this case I seem not to be taking her excellent advice]

I think it is okay to post ads for your in world business, especially if its a grand opening. The problem is "where"? I have put ads in the "projects" thread before.
I still wish we had an advertising thread just for this purpose. It could be used to advertise your own business or promote other businesses you have had a good experience with. You could also give a "heads up" to unfortunate business transactions you might have.

I believe we should have a forum specifically for advertisements. If people want to look for a certain product or service, they can goto that forum and check out the ads. Plus, I do not like the idea of spamming these great forums with ads. BTW, check out my place in Natoma -- 50% off everything! Oh wait, I dont sell anything... oh well.
