Live Help - Good or Bad

We've seen a few tirades bashing Live Help, Mentors, Oldbies in general, Content Barons and basically anyone who seems to want to help the community. So, I ask, what's your opinion? Do they (we, I was one) help?

I was involved with the first live help group - it can be very overwhelming when a wave of 10 or more IM's hit within 15 seconds of each other. But all in all I know many new players were very grateful for the volunteer efforts of live helpers and I assume that continues today.

I am finding it quite rewarding and please and thank yous abound. I believe the most recently threaded incident was isolated and has already been addressed within the group.

That's good to hear. I really think that a month of Live Help without being able to turn it off would be good for some people.

Write-in vote: It depends on who's listening and what sort of question I have (usualy scripting questions that I can't find the answer to in the wiki or friends to help me debug). I know that different people have different skills and not every live helper will be a master scripter/builder/whatever, so sometimes there just won't be someone on who knows the answer.

As long as they admit that they don't know as opposed to giving a bs answer to make it look like they know, that's fine...I'll just try again later when there are different people on.

I think Live Help is good from all sides, for the Helpies and the Helpers. It is a fairly new addition to SL and maybe it needs some evolving, but its a good thing still.

When I was in Live Help I counted 48528678684818332511969792345 ims from people who were properly and satisfactorily helped. I think that outweighs the negative issues in other that other post.

ok so maybe that number is not quite precise, but I bet its damn close...

There are some times that people call in with issues that totally stump me. I hate it when I run out of ideas and have to ask them to just email support, I feel like I'm brushing them off.

I look at live help like a game :D "Stump the Live Helper!" And, gosh by golly, I try my hardest not to be stumped!

I've done tech support for pay before (worked at a mom-and-pop computer store, we gave our customers full support) and that was hell. This is actually fun doing it non-paid. It's like there's no pressure to perform so I motivate myself to do my best. :D

*reads over the post* wow, I'm like totally giving props to myself.. oh well, I'm due :P Thanks for all the help, fellow LHers.. and thanks to all the previous LHers for the same - without your good work, it wouldn't have become such an important part of SL.
