Why is that on the leader boards it says I own 512m? Do private islands not count as land? If not, why not?

No they don't. When I first got my private sim I wanted to confirm that it wouldn't show in the leaderboard as I didn't want people to put 2 and 2 together to realise I had one (this was when it was invisible, when I was beginning to develop it and had more time). I had it confirmed then that it doesn't show in the leader boards. Not sure why, but then the leader boards count for nothing anyway so it doesn't really matter that it's not included.
