I received this in an email this morning, and thought it was really cool. So I'm sharing Ultimate Earth Mover This is the largest earth mover in the world..... built by the German company, Krupp, and seen here crossing a federal highway in Germany en route to its destination (an open-pit coal mine). It is cheaper to move the thing like this, than to construct or reassemble onsite. Specifications: ~ The mover stands 311 feet tall and 705 feet long. ~ It weighs over 45,500 tons ~ Cost $100 million to build ~ Took 5 years to design and manufacture ~ 5 years to assemble. ~ Requires 5 people to operate it. ~ The Bucket Wheel is over 70 feet in diameter with 20 buckets, each of which can hold over 530 cubic feet of material. ~ A 6-foot man can stand up inside one of the buckets. ~ It moves on 12 crawlers (each is 12 feet wide, 8' high and 46 feet long). There are 8 crawlers in front and 4 in back. It has a maximum speed of 1 mile in 3 hours (1/3 mile/hour). ~ It can remove over 76,455 cubic meters each day. (100,000 large dump trucks at 40yds. each)

Holy Crow! I guess that thing wouldn't be able to go anywhere near swampy terrain LOL. I am surprised it doesnt sink right into the ground under it's own weight. Let's build one in SL.

That's amazing. That must be the kind of design job that engineers live for!

It's obviously one of the signs of the coming apocolypse. Just wait till the get sick of paying the 5 operators and hook it up to a computer AI. Then we will see how long it takes for it to turn on us.

From: Aimee Weber They need to build a second one, then make them FIGHT!! Oh they will breed on thier own soon enough. After all the meatbags (humans) leave for the day, and the sun sets, I have no doubt that this dangerous monstrosity is even now secretly constructing a mate from scraps and spare parts left around the worksite.

It's like War of the Worlds but with wheels and big spinny things. Hmmm...so actually not much like it at all.
It's just an awesome example of engineering.

From: Billy Grace I hear it has a diet of only 37 small children per hour. However, you can also make it more economically feasible by feeding it only 16 large children, or at least Americans fattened on a McDonalds-only diet.

I had one of those metal toy tonka dump trucks when I was little! It was my very favorite toy - I remember I could fit both knees in there and roll down the driveway. Hrm... in hindsight, that probably wasn't the best idea, rolling into oncoming traffic in a toy dump truck.

Me too I also had a miniature one that I received as a kid on a field trip to the Tonka factory. It used to be near where I live in a city called Minnetonka, hence the name of the company. I would imagine they are made overseas nowadays. Wanna Race?

I seriously doubt I could fit both knees in it now. Maybe one-legged tonka truck racing?
