Anyhow, just wondering if there are free or affordable solutions out there.
I'm using the Maya pesonal, but it's got that bloody watermark on everything you render.

I'm just a hobbyist really and have only started in using 3d rendering thanks to SL. Last program I used was a shareware from the early 90's. lol

POVray is what I like but you'll need to find one of the 3D modeling programs to go with it. (POV is really just rendering software, although at least it's not DOS command based anymore lol)

WTF is C3PO supposed to be USEFUL for anyway, besides whining? Stupid piece of scrap metal would be more useful recycled as a toaster. But even that would suck, because who would want to listen to a whining wussy toaster? Is he gold plated? If that's the case he should just be melted down into gold ingots. Help the economy some, and stop being so damn useless you stupid bucket of bolts! R2 is 1,000 times more useful than your tin man ass, and he's shaped like a salt and pepper shaker FFS! |

Blender is pretty damn good for a three-meg download.

One of the most affordable/powerful 3d modelling and rendering programs is Caligari Truespace - it has a pretty unique, intuitive interface and impressive capabilities. You can usually get the previous version for a reasonable price - around $150, whereas the latest version will run you around $400 or so. Compared to the multiple thousands you pay for Maya/3ds, it is an excellent deal - and there is a demo version of Truespace 6.6 available.

However, if you're not using a modeller, you need to be good at visualizing how the parts of your scene fit together. (Quick tip: if you do all your editing on SL with the number entry boxes, you don't need a modeller to use POV-Ray) _____________________
