Will GOM have a greater impact on SL in the near future?

not produced really, just traded. i sell items for lindens, then sell the lindens to people for money. those people use the lindens to buy items from me then i turn around and sell them the lindens back for money then they use the lindens to buy items from me...

seems like it'd be simpler if the buy option just charged their credit card a few cents and ll deposited the money in my account. oh there i go thinking like a traditional developer again. when am i gonna enter the twenty-first century?

Like it or not, the almighty dollar (and the ability to convert L$ bits into the same) will drive most of what we see/hear/feel in SL. I think GOM is whey kewl, and I wholeheartedly endorse LL's embracement of the same.

yeah but lindens are senseless. they were invented to regulate land ownership and prim usage back when we had taxes. they're only purpose now is to inconvenience everybody by interfering with our, including ll's, direct access to our real money. when 1.2 introduced tier fees and auctions based on real dollars, the sales code should have been rewritten to use real dollars as well.

ll could've begun clearing card charges and credits weekly and skimming a service percentage off the top. plus all auction fees would have been paid in real dollars. they would've made a killing and not been bothered with trying to balance two disparent economies.

it was oversighfull to keep the lindens in the game. it ranks right up there with keeping the ratings system after searchable find indexes and personal notes were incorported into the ui.

I strongly disagree. L$'s have a edge when it comes from being 'seperate'. Would you pay US$10 for a seburo any other way? When it's L$'s, it's like gambling chips - it's seperated, and you are more easily parted.

I don't think the exchange rate is appropriate regarding converting Starwars Galaxies Credits to Secondlife Lindens.. 1 million Starwars Galaxies Credits equal only 1,000 Lindens? LOL.

Just goes to show you SWG credits are Worthless...hehe

I say leave the Linden Lab Dollars alone

Its the only way to distinguish LL from RL for some people so dont Muck with it.

this is a good thing? i'll grant you it's true. people will chuck away 1000L in a casino with no thought that it's worth ~$4. they'll even spend 30,000 on a piece of land with no thought that it's worth ~$120. that makes me sad. oh smile khamon; it's a good thing!

Currency conversion is a curious thing.

What are some familiar "realworld" currencies that the Linden dollar is worth more than?

Project Entropia players' money situation is horrifying. The game's relentless money treadmill rewards sociopathic behavior (i.e. scamming inexperienced noobs) and seems to require the formation of groups wherein some players spend hours selling things. Nice landscapes and monsters, though.
Sorry if I don't make sense but I have a throbbing headache.

PRoject Entropia is a money grab gone wrong.

Its entire design is to force you to pay gobs and gobs of money.

At least with SL you can be reasonably content with a 10 dollar lifetime membership.

Project Entropia forces you to spend money (more than $US10) just to "survive", as it were.

Know what a starting job for a newbie is? Bait for high level monsters so players can shoot them as the newbies run away.

Your reward? Useless loot worth pennies for entire stacks.

Exciting stuff.

Oddly, if they just upped and charged people $10 a month like everyone else no-one would feel quite so horrified by Entropia.

The current design just makes people think they can make money in it, rather than thinking they can spend a little money a month and have fun.

Silly design really
