Dayam, BEST graphics, BEST GUI, BEST, BESTER BESTEST! As an AC1 and AC2 player, I knew what good was, now I know SUPERB! Jebus Linden, glad I can keep SL for free, cuz I like it here, but after playing rollout week of EQII, I know what one game I want to pay for now. Seriously, EQII is just fucking awesome, requires a beefy vid card and system RAM (I just upgraded my system to 3 GIG of RAM, my vid card got the discards and is now holding 1.5 GIG of RAM) I play the game with all settings maxed, if you step in grass, then camera angle down to your foot, you can ACTUALLY see the bend in the grass you are standing on, your hair flows with the wind, your clothes move when you move, too much to state. EYE CANDY galore!!!!! Love all you SL-ers, and want to keep you here, but make room for EQII! ROCKING! And thats all the news thats fit to print

It's a treadmill.
Use your thump to attack Rat1. Level up to round 2. Use your Thump.2 to attack Rat2. Repeat until level 3. Use your Thump.3 to attack Rat3 (except Rat3 is now Dark Rat +5). Repeat until level 4.
Rinse, repeat. Buy expansion packs. Rinse, repeat. Pay monthly fee. Rinse, repeat.
The MMORPG genre hasn't changed a lick since Ultima Online, not counting graphics. Hell, not even since non-graphical muds.

Froglocks have to be unlocked by a quest in order to play them. I enjoy the Ratonga's introduction a ton though. The game is great, but as LF said - it is really repetitive like every mmo out there. But MMO's routine has some attraction, otherwise _no one_ would ever play them.

It's a nice looking game, but it lacks the soul and depth that World of Warcraft has. It just seems bland and uninspired. Technically beautiful but with an emptiness to it. Verant/Sony can churn out games, but they all seem soulless, even one with as much of a mythology as Star Wars. EQII is definitely not the draw that World of Warcraft is, which is why WoW has had all the pre-release buzz and hype. Sony even pushed up the EQ2 release date because of fears about WoW . I am glad you like it - I tried it and it is definitely not for me, whereas WoW grabbed me instantly.
Btw, to show I am not alone in feeling this, here are some user comments from MMORPG:
Member Comments: On Nov 13, 2004 Vidir wrote: I love this game but I did drop my love fore it some and that is only becouse of the max 4 character stuff, I guess they will loose players becouse of that in the long terme. On Nov 13, 2004 mistawho wrote: the game is beautiful... great graphics and soung... game play is okie.... no PVP... WOW is much better. On Nov 13, 2004 Iijs wrote: How's the PvP? Oops. On Nov 13, 2004 Croco wrote: This is a fun game in the beginning but gets unfun and frustrating in the long run (past level 20). Best is the graphic, which aren't perfect, but best so far for any MMO. For me it's more about how fun a game truely is. After I have beta tested WoW and EQ2, I can only say EQ2 is not my bowl. WoW beats it in so many other ways. WoW glows compared to this shell with badly designed content (solo/group tagged mobs, almost group only after level 20, zoning, just 2 cities (-> bad replayability), just 4 classes if you look closer to what difference them, auto turn around toward enemy, etc...) I could go on, but I stop now. It's a shiny package with badly designed content.

I've been playing it since it came out. It does look good and has some good things going for it. But it seems it wants to make you group up with other players to fight anything good. I'll keep playing it some more and see how I like it by the time the free month expires. At the moment all I can play of it is for a couple of hours before it starts to get boring for me. It is an improvement on the first one though.
P.S. The Froglocks have to be unlocked somehow before you can play one. Just like some of the races in Horizons.

As someone who will be playing EQ2 and WOW retails for a while(I'm an avid mmorpger, what can I say), I'm going to give EQ2 a thumbs up.
I was majorly skeptical when the game was in development, and wasn't quite sold in my first few hours of beta. However, so far I am pleased with one major aspect of EQ2, and that's world-interaction. No, it isn't revolutionary, no it isn't a reinvention of the wheel(mmorpg), but it is at least entertaining. Small bits of lore scattered around; quests, that while may only result in a few copper, can tell you one more story going on; the ability to own a dinky inn-room to decorate or invite your friends... and so forth. Call me easy to please, but I also find the voice additions to be a fun new way to fall deeper into game-lore, as well.
Repitition will never leave MMORPGs, nor RL if you want to make comparisons, it's making those repititions interesting and/or fun that matters. At least to me.
WoW and EQ2 will both flourish in the years to come, and thousands upon thousands of people will be able to enjoy themselves in yet more virtual worlds.
That is nothing but a win-win situation.

LF Thanks for pointing out the obvious! Just kidding... but yep that says it all. Guild Wars (IF you consider it MMORPG which it barely qualifies as if at all) has some innovations, but it appears to be partly a mask for an equipment treadmill instead of an experience treadmill. The genre is doomed to be flawed forever, really. Not that it's not worth playing any of them at all, but it's not worth spending years on any of them like Ultima was (for awhile).

(Y'know, I've been waiting for eq2 and wow for like 2 years, probably like many other people, and now its finally here and .... nowhere near a location with it installed...
Does anyone know:
- can you download WoW off the Internet? (assuming a valid WoW account of course) How large is the download.
- locations of cybercafe(s) in S Korea / Hong Kong / Taiwan / Singapore with WoW and / or eq2 either installed or will be installed? (or in China or anywhere nearby for that matter)
)

Well since I'm throwing in with the Guild Wars camp, I figure I should prop it up a bit. First off, eye candy: http://mywebpage.netscape.com/sironin/index.html I compiled all my screenshots from the E3 for Everyone event, the World Preview Event, and the Beta Weekend 1. Now I won't say I've played EQ2 or WoW (although I have extensively watched someone play WoW), but at this point I can safely say EQ2 and WoW will be competing with each other and Guild Wars will not be needing to competing with either of them. It's like saying Secondlife would compete with uhm EQ1 or Shadowbane or something. They're simply that different. Let me explain how. In WoW basically all characters are disengenous, essentially similiar as far as skills, abilities, and hitpoints go, among their class/race combination until they reach level 10. Whereupon they start taking traits or talents or whatever and start becoming different from each other. If I were to compare that to SecondLife, it'd be like asking all avatars to build to specific objects or something before they're allowed to change their appearance. It's silly. Guild Wars knows it's silly, Second Life knows it's silly. EQ and WoW will pander to people who either LIKE that or don't know it's silly. In Guildwars you will start at level 1 with a small range of skills. As you level you'll accumulate a fairly large amount of salvageable material well before you'll be able to use all of it. Essentially, that equipment grind does not exist. By the time you get through the tutorial levels of 1-20, you'll have more than enough material to make some pretty sweet stuff. It's if you want MORE stuff, or a couple different SETS of stuff that you'll want to go back and get more. You may be scratching your head when I mentioned levels 1-20 as tutorial levels. They basically are. You can get to level 20 within a day if you're a level grinder or within a week if you're a casual player. The faster you learn the game, the faster you'll get there. Leveling isn't the POINT. Strategy is. Which 8 skills you bring into a fight become very important later on. You still gain skill points and your exp bar still goes up, but your hp doesn't. So it makes for some very, very interesting play. If you check out the screenshots, the explore areas are magnificant. I spent as much time exploring as I could and couldn't even find all the areas, much less see all of the map. And from what they're telling us, they're only showing us 20% of the content that will be in release. It's somewhat mind boggling how detailed and huge it will be. And all that aside, the missions are interesting. They tell a story as they take you along on it and you fight for it. The sidequests and explore areas really add a sense of depth to all this that just makes 'go fetch me a bucket' type quests seem really lame. Never have I played a game that made all others seem 'dull' and 'boring' in comparison just right off. Sure, I've been interested in a few, but not like this.
