Has anyone else experienced lag so bad that when you teleport somewhere, then press the up arrow for example, it's at least a second or two before your avatar moves, and then it moves too far because it continues to move for a second or so after you have stopped holding the key down...
This lag is really spoiling secondlife for me and as the Lindens are 'so easy to talk to' that there's no need for a union or for us to speak as a group, I ask this for myself, and I'd love a Linden to explain to me on this thread what the problem is, and when we might expect a fix.

Yeah, it was pretty bad for me, last night. I am beginning to detect a pattern, in my case. In texture-saturated sims/plots, my physical memory is always pegged to the hilt and my system cache is always at peak (around 600000 KB). I am building a new gaming-optimized system, and I'll be curious to see if the enhanced graphics card/memory, 64-bit processor and triple RAM will make a difference.

I have noticed the lag increase dramatically over the past couple of weeks - it makes SL very frustrating at times, and I am on a high end machine. Even with local lighting turned off, I have noticed skipping, people sinking into the ground, and a lot of other weirdness - plus it takes forever for textures to rez in sometimes. The performance has definitely degraded a lot

It would be kinda cool except I can never use your animation previewer.

memory added -- did the trick
01-31-2005 09:33
I added a stick of memory to my fairly dated comp (2 years old) and it did the trick beautifully. Lag was greatly minimized.

I have a blistering 64MB of graphics card to throw at Secondlife, working with a powerful 2.4GHz P4 processor, and a gigabyte (Yes a gig) of RAM.

Yeah, that did help me for awhile, but there are just so many factors that produce lag. Client lag is only one piece of the puzzle, I'm afraid. My new system will have 2 x 512 DIMMs. I think the motherboard we are going with has four memory slots, and if so, I'll probably stick my current 2 x 256 DIMMs in there, as well. Will be interesting to see if it makes a major difference.

I have 2 gigs of ram, and while in Slootsville yesterday I could barely move.
Also have a 256 meg Graphics card.

I got odd pockets of lag, and I know its client related.
The occur occasionally when teleporting to a new location, or more oddly, if I minimize my client, I get about 60 seconds of 0.3fps on the client after restoring... which never used to happen. Oh yeah, for the record, my computer is teh 133t s3xx0rz. I kiss it before bed at night.

Perhaps it is the hundreds of invisible phantom scripted objects moving through the skies all over SL.
And no I'm not kidding.

we have a preview grid up. that always causes excessive lag on the main grid. i've no idea why; but it always does.

From: Lance LeFay And a 64 meg card blows. And you have the audacity to complain about others' flagrant misuse of the English language.

I like how a thread about lag starts out with a half-hearted attempt to put forth the misguided union idea and then ends with a pissing contest about computer hardware. God bless the internet.

Le Cadre use to be known as a lag free enjoyable place to go, now you get a small group of people in there and it's like you are walking through melted marshmellows!

I have slowly come to the opinion that the SL system has exceeded its design considerations to a degree that no one knows why even half of the reported phenomena happen - let alone what to do about them.

I know for a fact its LL but as we all see no one wants to reply in the LL office Well in order to make them respond to us I proposed to form a union, a big group of people all speaking in unison, but I got seven members. I was reliably informed by the residents of SL that there's no need to speak in unison, if one person asks, the Lindens always rush to reply. I'm not going to say anything... Just make your own conclusions from the evidence before you...
