Why do some projects get free land funding from the Lindens (actually, if you think about it, it all comes out of our pockets) and other projects have to be privately funded?

Depending on how this project works out we plan to expand the idea into an ongoing program that responds with support to other groups who want to create something new and unique within SL. I get the sense if you have a burningly good idea and a proven history of execution for a temporary project you could probably get some free resources. Have you tried emailing them with your idea? _____________________
Taken from The last paragraph on pg. 16 of Cory Ondrejka's paper "Changing Realities: User Creation, Communication, and Innovation in Digital Worlds :
"User-created content takes the idea of leveraging player opinions a step further by allowing them to effectively prototype new ideas and features. Developers can then measure which new concepts most improve the products and incorporate them into the game in future patches." |

He could just be asking out of interest too. I would also like to know the answer to this question, and I am not looking to get funding on anything.

Have you tried emailing them with your idea? I wasn't talking about myself. I was talking about the many other projects going on in SL. _____________________

I suppose it is a matter of submitting a proposal. I think we may see more Linden sponsored projects in the future, I think they may be figuring out how to do it.
This thread has some details on that: /3/b4/26390/1.html I guess the advantage is free use of land, but the disadvantage is having to follow the guidelines prescribed and not having the real freedom to do as you wish and collect the dwell and/or financial reward. _____________________
