Offended

I have had so many people in this game tell me how I should feel. This is a personal pet peeve of mine. When I am angry, then I am angry, telling me I should not be angry will only serve to redirect my anger at you. The same thing goes with what I find offensive. I consider myself a reasonable and sensible person. I don't fly off the handle yelling and screaming everytime someone does something I don't like. Heck, if you want to fill all the mature sims with crack houses and all pg ones with churches, I fully support that. It will be just like my old neighborhood.

In the past week I have done more abuse reports than in the month I have being playing, heck, a week ago I didn't even know where the abuse button was. My reports used to be well-thought out, articulate and fair. Now they consist of: WTF!?!?! Do something!

I am gonna ask once and I am gonna ask nicely, if you are gonna make n*gger jokes in my presence, please please make sure they are funny. Go to a few Nation of Islam sites, a few New Black Panther sites, post your humor there along with your name, address and phone. I am sure the people there will be happy to make sure your racist comments will amuse me, if you can make that crowd chuckle with your hateful stereotyping, I am sure I will be rolling in laughter. Maybe go to your closest black friend and ask them what they think of your attempt at humor. Nothing like a good friend to give you honest feedback instead of trying this out on me, a relative stranger.

Note: I am pretty intuitive and people aren't psychic, if someone does something that is borderline offensive but don't mean any harm by it I leave it alone. But if a person says something to offend me, I am gonna be offended and pissed at anyone who tells me to just laugh it off.(prepares to count the number of replies that say, just laugh it off).

I, for one, NEVER find the N word funny. Ever. I don't even like hearing black people using the word. Warning! If I EVER hear anyone using hate speech in SL, consider yourself reported. And, I won't let it rest with an abuse report. I will hound the Lindens till that person is gone from Sl. Permanently.

I agree Devlin, I try to avoid conversations regarding race and religiion, because no matter what I find myself offended or the other person. And the N word is a word I hate more then anything, even more then words that are used against my own race (hispanic).

Well I got my form letter which lets me know the Linden's are right on top of the situation. Maybe its my fault for having a black AV, these issues wouldn't come up if I pretended to be white.

How lame. I think that resorting to any sort of racial humor is the surest sign of personal inferiority.

Wow I have to admit I am a bit shocked that people are standing around in SL telling racial jokes, but since SL is a reflection of society at large, it isn't all that surprising. How unbelievably lame. While we certainly should be able to laugh at ourselves, using racially derogatory terms in an attempt at humor is just plain sad. How old are these idiots? Grow the f*ck up. Sorry you have to deal with that Kas.

Last Thanksgiving a very hateful message was posted directly about me on these forums . It took me 4 hours to get a Linden to delete it . I Still have that message and the person that posted it is still active on these forums. I have said it once if I have said it 1000 times, as long as the money hits the till, Linden labs isnt gonna kick anyone. I dropped my account back to basic and sold off all my land so I can basically visit 3 or 4 people here. Any you know what Kasendra? These 3 or 4 people have been griefed by the same one that posted that nasty message last November.

So who are the 5 or 6 people that cause all of the problems on these forums you ask? Simply look at who starts the threads that cause the most trouble. With subjects like religion, alternate lifestyles, stuff that is hateful and ugly and whatnot. They are all right here just waiting to cause the next contrversy and you know what? Linden isn't gonna do a DARN thing to stop it. Heaven forbid they should clean up their forums and toss off the people that cause the contraversy!

So I just visit a few friends and off I go to do my other internet things. When Linden cleans up the stink from the plumbing overflowing from the forums, Sl will be a better place.

What a coincidence, Regnar, there's this annoying person who never does anything BUT post their idiotic, thinly veiled accusations on the forums, always directed at me. I'd say 75% of this person's posts lately, were nothing but "hateful", thinly disguised attacks on someone who has never "griefed" anyone. I've been here for a year, and no one ever complained about anything I ever did. Not to me, at least, and if anyone ever complained to LL about me, then heck, LL sure didnt do anything about it which means they found me innocent.

If only people would have the maturity to deal with their own issues instead of whining to the lindens about it, or posting thinly disguised attacks on the forums.

My contacts are all very much available on my profile and if someone has ever been "griefed" by me, or has some other issue they would like to discuss with me, I hereby invite them to do it.

Well, I hate to hear that ANYONE has been plagued by racial slurring in game. I have been in game almost 6 months now, and have only seen one racially offensive thing. It was a tasteless AV all stereotyped out in the most negative way, and spouting stereotypical negatives. A most offensive parady which everyone in earshot of reported. Havent seen hide nor hair of him again.

There will always be idiots....there will always be thrill seekers...there will always be voluntarily ignorant people...

keep your head, report the hate-gaming, and find a better class of people to hang out with in-game.

I just cant imagine such behavior from anyone I know here, but then again...I dont tolerate it in my presence....I take my presence elsewhere or ask them to remover theirs (depends if I am on my land, public land, or theirs).

Although, that is what kills me about rules of war, if we are getting along well enough to agree on what not to do in a fight, then why are we fighting?

Personally I don't think its about agreeing to do or not do any particular thing, it's a matter of morality and ethics as much as anything. Most decent human beings should know what is right and what is wrong. Of course, there are an awful lot of people out there that simply aren't decent human beings. Usually this being the root cause of the fighting.

Umm...okay, I am about to blow up your cities, however if any of your soldiers surrender I will take them prisoner and give them back to you when we are done.

If I am already killing civilians by the handfuls with the bombing of the cities, then why am I gonna do the "moral" thing and hold your soldiers. If I am made enough to go to war, I should be mad enough to kill anyone carrying your banner.

The truth of the matter is people play war, tons of people get killed over a messy game. Because if you have enough repore going that you have rules for the war, you can work out whatever your issues are.

Take the Revolutionary War. People were supposed to stand in big lines and shoot at each other, but the American soldiers didn't do that, because they weren't playing war. Heck, a lot of them were untrained and didn't know the game.

My God, what has happened to sl lately? I hope the Lindens will make it their number one priority to attack racism in sl at all costs. It's the one thing that would make me leave.

Nothing has happened. SL hasn't suddenly turned into the bastion of skinheads and ignorant rednecks. There are a few incidents now and then as there always have been here and elsewhere.

Maybe you're reacting to the first quote above. Excuse me, but it's a stupid statement. I'm sure it was spoken in the heat of the moment, in bitterness, and does not reflect the opinion of the speaker in calmer moments. If they really do think that because an idiot spouted off they should throw up their hands and start pretending to be white, well, that's dumb and doesn't deserve sympathy.

Come on, everyone. The forums didn't used to be so frantic. Has the world changed or are people blowing things out of proportion more often? I would suggest it's the latter. Now days all it takes is one forum anecdote for the place to explode in a flurry of apocalyptic doomsaying. SL is rascist. The Lindens are tyrants. The rich are lording it over the poor. Orgies and porn are out of control. Half of SL are underage and the other half are pedophiles. Just stop.

Rascism is bad. We don't even have to discuss that. No one needs to hear that you think it's disgusting behavior. Just deal with it and move on, or rather, let the Lindens deal with it (which they are) and move on. Nothing will be helped by saying "maybe I should just pretend to be white" or by declaring this a sign of the SL end times. It's not. It's just another day in the history of the world and the sun will rise tomorrow unaware that some dumbass cracker made a black joke.

Besides, which what, do you think, is an acceptable level of racism in second life? My own answer would be 'none'. I can't imagine what it would be like to be minding my own business inworld and to have some ignorant idiot making stupid jokes about my race. I'm glad I don't have to face it, and I feel sorry for those who do.

Second life might reflect society as a whole, but this is one area where I think it should be better.

It wasn't just one time, that was the forth time in the past week someone has said something derogatory toward my avatar's race. Thus my statement that you highlighted was sarcasm. Like, maybe I wouldn't have this problem if I whitewashed my avatar to blend better.
