Well, now that 1.5.9 is here, my brief period of being able to enjoy building in Second Life seems to have come to an end. The rubberbanding problem has returned, so when I size prims with the mouse they snap back, and when I position them with the mouse, they snap back in position. Objects are drifting dramatically while editing them, and the 180.01 instead of 180 exactly problem has returned. Oh well, at least I got to get in a few hours of enjoyment. Maybe it will happen again sometimes in years to come.

It's my understanding that the primary cause of the so-called rubberband issue is lag. I highly doubt that a minor release which fixed some minor UI issues is the cause of this problem. What's your avg lag and ploss?

Edit: After I reread the release notes, I must correct myself. They were not really UI issues, just various random issues.

And now... I can't seem to stay online for more than 2 minutes without crashing, regardless of if I teleport or not. I think I'll do some laundry.

I typically get pings in both directions of 100 or so, sometimes lower, sometimes higher, with zero packet loss and fps's of 15 in prim and avatar packed areas up to 38 looking at the sandy walls of Cordova. Immediately following installation of 1.5.8.3 the problems stopped completely, it was like playing a different game - a good game that makes you happy instead of making you angry and sad. Immediately following installation of 1.5.9 the situation returned to it's state of previous months.

I realize it's possible that some other unrelated condition just happen to occur for the exact time during which 1.5.8.3 was installed. The client side program plays an integral part of the two-way communications used in Second Life. I would not exclude it as a culprit based on information from Linden Labs because they have demonstrated that they either 1: state falsehoods for their own purposes, or 2: are grossly ignorant of simple information about computer performance which is readily available on the internet and are rather pigheaded about learning it since it took months of repetition on the parts of concerned SL customers to finally make them admit their extemely serious error.

I've never had a problem with SL crashing in a looooong time.

I get prim drift a bit here n there, but that's all.

Well, I haven't had an unstable version of SL for over a year...

...except for tonight's, apparently.

Two crashes in two minutes. One a freezeup of the client, another one was a CTD.

I uninstalled SL, deleted every folder related to SL, and reinstalled. No more crashes (so far).

I'm wondering if these crash problems aren't somehow related to the "intelligent" uninstall proceedure they use now. Maybe it's not deleting something it should?

I'm not having a crash problem.
12-17-2004 01:17
The problem I am having is not crashing, it's objects sized with the mouse snapping back to their prior position, objects moved with the mouse returning to their previous position, while ping times are fine and packet loss is zero., in all sims that I try to make anything in.

I did have crash troubles during 1.5.8 prior to the one just before the last one.

I have not tried doing an official uninstall of SL an deleting any residue myself since this shouldn't be necessary if their install program is written correctly. But I will do it anyway since computers are such ornery beasts.

This is probably not the place to say so, but what the hell...

Another problem noticed by me and my cohorts is that it isn't correctly baking in client side textures into our avies any more; that is to say that it is randomly showing or not showing our Second Skins. And when it goes for one, it goes for all at the same time, and everyone sees no one with a skin.

And I look a really odd shade without my skin! pfft.

So for now I've gone goth. It doesnt notice quite so much when your skin detail suddenly disappears.

Friday morning.. anyone still having trouble with this? I'm at work, can't log in.

I just read in the 1.59 notes that it was supposed to fix a client crash bug. Oh the IRONY.

I had a similar problem with clothing. No matter how many times I clicked wear on a shirt, it would not appear on my AV. Not just one shit, but several. I had to log off and then back on for this problem to clear up - but it happed again when I tried to change the clothing my AV was wearing.

Said the guy who's browsing the forums on the company dime. :p

But what I meant was, I'm at work, I don't have access to SL here and therefore can't test out how it's running for me today. Thought I should clear that up in case the boss is reading.
