Yup, I second that. While at times, I've been very whiney, I'm still very happy with what LL does to alleviate those bouts of whineyness. Juro, you got it right on the head, LL does do a good job considering the massive growth of the game in the last while. Take a snapshot of the grid one year ago, and tell me that LL ain't busy trying to accomodate the new AVs that come into world.
I'm starting to get uber-sick of people who feel that they are the supreme-overlords of LL cuz they spend X number of USD per month. Take a step back, LL may falter at times, but, damn, they're doing a fine job. So, quit you're whining, and start enjoying everything you DO have! To the LL guys, you do ROCK (Sorry Nova, but everyone else has been elevated up to ROCK status , and I've bumped you to GODLY ). I recently had a very emotional time that caused me to nearly leave the game perminantely. Then after just one evening, I realized how special of a thing is SL. I just couldn't make myself leave.Ok, sure, many people would feel that I may be going a little to far with this, but the friendships I have developed in world, they're pretty real. The satisfaction of completing some big build, or scripting project, pretty real too. The excitement of discovering the next mind blowing creation in world? I could just babble on-and-on-and-on. There's so much SL as a metaverse, and a technology that is so impressive. The last thing I really wanna mention, every staff member I have had dealings with, I have been very impressed, and am happy that I know that all of my effort is a testiment to such a cool thing that they as a team have built and helped keep alive. I tip my hat! _____________________

Well stated Juro, and I agree totaly. It's unfortunate that this world has grown so incredibly fast and through it doing so, so many have been elevated and or hurt by its growth. I remember when SL was a COMMUNITY of friends now its a battle zone of who can get rich first.
I still give stuff away a lot of the time but I also still have a few that assume to try to take advantage. Thankfully looking back loosing the context of daily drama greatly relieved the stress in my life. Maybe others should take a step back and look at that. LL is overwhelmed right now a balence is trying to be achieved. Unfortunately Technical will always be slower than social. For instance Technical advancement of a product will always be slower because of inherent problems. No Programer is going to get it right the first time because systems have gremlins in them that prevent that. However, Marketing and social status will accell quickly because its easy to draw intrest to something. So in that token, People Give LL a break look inside yourselves and say ok they have a problem what can I give back that will maybe eleviate or help in the solution. anyway I digress, Have a good day everyone. HERE HERE!
![]() Grrr it makes me mad too, not only the flames towards Lindens -- but moreso, the repetitious redundancy of a lot of it. Stuff that comes up again and again, and I bet some of the Lindens are mentally going through their heads and thinking: "Well, I know I heard that one before!" As a community inworld we also stand to help each other, such as the Live Help and mentorship and other such programs. And even informal chat that answers each other's questions. For example, for newbies, there are often those like Kex and Toy (nice 3-letter names, eh) just standing around with lots of knowledge to share. This needs to be publicized more, as well as a big statement from LL saying: "YES, WE DO CARE, AND WE ARE VERY BUSY WORKING ON THE NEXT VERSION. PLEASE HELP EACH OTHER AND WE WILL ALL BE BETTER." (Or something like that.)I'm so grateful that despite all the bugs, SL does work. I know it because I've been talking to some of you! And exploring, and playing trivia (not so much anymore), and even some building... all of these collective things-to-do. Hey, I even take part in the consumer madness and buybuybuy at times. (Not unlike Mr. Data from Star Trek: TNG, in search of new experiences.) Ultimately: we must persist! SL reflects RL in a number of ways -- but the unique thing here is that not only are the reality components represented, but the fantasies too... things we can't do IRL like fly unassisted. Of course, this is a double-edged sword, freeing inhibitions on both sides of the coin. So, it's not unusual that some tend to believe that bugs can be magically eradicated just as quickly as castles are erected.I... am just thankful to be here. _____________________

My car needed washing, and Andrew Linden said he wouldn't do it! I asked to speak to his supervisor but he said no to that too.
When I asked Bub Linden to wash my car, he handed me a t-shirt and told me to talk to a liaison! I mean, it didn't say in the ToS or anything I read that they'd wash my car, but damn, I thought they would because this is customer service! ![]() _____________________

Hah and this post and its sentiment isn't redundant?
Two sides to the coin: - People who have worked hard to master the building tools and LSL and try to use SL as advertised, but keep getting knocked back by unannounced changes, newly introduced bugs, and drastic system instabilities. - People who think that the above is ok and are tired of hearing people complain about it. Before you talk down to somebody who gripes about the bugs and ongoing instability, and I've seen it since it was seeable, spend a month of all your free time writing code. Then have somebody break it with no warning. Then fix it. Then see it break again. YOU will COMPLAIN. A LOT. It has wasted so much of my time I'm terrified to start any more large projects, or even fix existing ones. For chrissake I have had to rebuild my house twice, and patch it up now and then, simply due to new bugs or major system alterations! I had to restructure the code for both the Vorago and Terrain (hundreds of lines of code)! I turned on "return all objects not mine in X mins" and large chunks of my house and the vorago were returned! For a time somebody could rez a coupla hundred objects on your land to deliberately tear apart your build! Let alone the whole taxes disaster, age old porting and attachment problems, and so on. And pretty much every report or request for rollback or assistance, filed through the official channels, went entirely unanswered, which is very unsatisfying. This happens enough, and people will abandon those channels and start yaulping from the forum rooftops. There is a REASON for this. More than once recently I've just logged off in frustration. I don't even bother filing reports anymore because I get no response, and all that "don't type here type below that line there" stuff ain't doing it for me. Gradually, I'm beginning to wonder if the Burning Life thing is really what SL is about. Build something at one point in time, using the system as it currently works. Tear it down shortly after. Then build something else that works within whatever changes and bugs now exist. And so on. Emperor of Ice Cream. Nobody ever said they aren't working hard, and we all agree SL is a visionary thing; this is why we continue to shell out our hard earned $RL. But often it seems they may be working hard on the wrongs things. Get it working first, then add the ability to shorten your dresses or sit correctly or whatever. Somehow, someway though, the Vorago Droids are still doing their thing. Every time I log in I'm amazed to still see them there, randomly pathing around the building exactly as they are supposed to...and it gives me hope. _____________________

Three sides, I would argue... there's also: People how have worked thier asses off to master the building tools and LSL to utilize SL to its full potential, run into 'issues' (aka new versions) that cause major problems, realize this is an emerging technology/environment, fill out a bug report and get tired of people complaining over and over about it. _____________________

I don't know if this is a side or not... and frankly, tonight, I don't care. But here's my not-so-humble opinion.
I pays my moneh, I gets ta bitch. When LL offers this for free, then I won't look the gift horse in the mouth. If I don't like something free, I refuse it or go find something else or somewhere else. But I pay a significant (to me) amount each month to do the SecondLife thing. It's not marketed as Beta software. It's marketed as fully functional. When the reality does not live up to the marketing, the producer needs to be held accountable. As a curmudgeon, that is my (currently drunk) self-appointed role. So, I will continue to speak out when things go wrong, but remember that I also give them credit for what they do/have provided so far. /me falls off the soap box now and crawls to the cabinet for another whiskey. |

Amen Tcoz - summed it up perfectly.
Notice how quite a few of the others who have put in the time have finally found that 'last straw' and have gone on extended vacations. |

I pays my moneh, I gets ta bitch. Korg... yes, you do. Again.. maybe I'm not explaining this correctly. But, again... my point is that I would like for folks to stop and think before posting thier complaint. It doesn't mean I want them to stop complaining... just realize, the Lindens are not ignoring us, they *are* working to fix issues, but we keep giving them more. Happy posting. ![]() _____________________

Listen, [...] Personally, I'm getting really tired of hearing how LL does *nothing* to help us. Before posting on here to complain, realize that they are probably working thier little tails off to fix the issues, but we also feed them more. Greifers, runaway scripts and objects, land battles, etc. all are under *our* control, not thiers. So Juro - people should be welcome to post freely about any topic they care for - so long as it is of a positive attitude and agrees with your frame of mind? If a forum is not the place to express your feelings, what is? The larger our world gets, and the more users we take on, the more user-created issues LL has to deal with and that soaks up time/resources that could be spent fixing issues that are not user-created. I'm not saying that your complaints aren't valid, but how about cutting them some slack! If there is any one single reason that various issues should be voiced openly and completely now it is because of the immense growth of the game. As new people come to the game these things are bound to be found by more and more players and cause more serious stresses and problems than they do now. If even you admit that in many cases they are valid, why not cut the people slack that have already once been burned and are only trying to be heard in a conducive manner to public discourse? What would you suggest they do, sit down and shut up until the metaverse crumbles around them? Having said that i do want to stress again: Thank you so much Linden Labs for what you have done and how far you have come, and congrats on the financing as im sure it will take you (us!) far! I appreciate each and every one of your individual efforts to bring it all together =) |

Deklax... read my posts. I'm not suggesting people QUIT complaining... I'm asking them to do a few simple things:
- realize that all of us *contribute* to the workload of LL (some more than others) - file a bug report and have a little faith that they will, eventually, get to it. - realize LL is not out to ruin anyone's SL That's all... I agree that issues need to be voiced. The forums are the perfect place for it. _____________________
