Hey Everyone! I have a question that maybe some of you experimentors could help me with (or perhaps a Linden will chime in). When I was buying my current land in Federal, I was still very new to the game and couldn't get large chunks to show up for purchase at one time (they were available, I was just not good at stretching to the land size I wanted). So I ended up buying several small pieces of land that are all next to each other and in total make up my plot. After 1.1 was realeased, I found that you could "join" land pieces together, but only when first claiming them. How this question of mine is answered, is going to determine whether I release and reclaim those pieces of land or not. Ok THE QUESTION: I know that with the dwell bonus, it takes a person being on your land for at least 5 minutes before the bonus starts. Due to the above stated situation, when a person is walking around my Gallery and Boutique, they are stepping onto several different plots of land that are mine. Does it take them being on each of those various land spots at least 5 minutes before the dwell kicks in for that "land mass"? Or do they just need to be on any land piece of mine for at least 5 minutes, and then when they walk to another piece of land of mine the dwell just continues to rise? Hopefully this was not confusing (let me know if I can explain better). And thank you all in advance for any help you can give me!

Why dont you just join the land together, or release it and then reclaim it as one big plot?

This is just a guess, but I think your land would need to be joined. I could see someone spending 10 minutes on your land, but maybe only two minutes on five different plots, since they are walking around. The five minute minimum never kicks in on a single plot so you might not get a bonus.
I have land in Teal, Natoma, and Minna. I would think that any dwell bonus I got would be based on time spent at each location, for a combined grand total. Same situation for your land, except all your seperate plots are right next to each other. Maybe this is why the join feature was introduced?

The 5 minute limit does apply to each separate parcel, which is a bug, since we merge parcels inside the dwell processing code for the rest of the calculations. I need to dig into the code a bit to figure out to fix it. Specifically, if a user spends more than 5 minutes on a sequence of parcels owned by the same user or group without moving onto someone else's parcel, it should count.
Bug entered. Cory

It's a good idea to join your land for tax purposes. Your neighbor discount will go up, which will reduce your taxes. Not a whole lot, but every little bit helps. Especially if you have a lot of land.
I had tested this pre-1.1 and just finished testing it post-1.1, and it still works.
The nice thing is that you no longer have to stretch and maneuver to grab a huge chunk. You can now grab small chunks and hit the 'Join' button. I also tested grabbing a huge chunks versus joining small ones and there was no difference in the end result neighbor discount.
Hope this helps - Candie

Thanks for the responses everyone! =) I had not even thought about saving in taxes by joining my pieces together, so thank you for that tip! The only reason I have not taken the time to release and re-claim my pieces of land (and take advantage of the new "join" feature) is because there are so many little pieces and it will require picking my place up (which is quite large and not all together linked) so that I can see the land enough underneath to actually do all this releasing and re-claiming. I have not checked though to see if there is a way to view land and not see prims. That would be interesting and make things a whole lot easier for me! hehe Thank you again everyone!

Under the Debug Menu->Rendering you can turn off the visibiliry of just about everything (including water) which makes this task about a zillion times easier. You don't want to turn off the Land rendering unless you want to make it a zillion times harder. Hope this helps.
