Just wondering how many people actually give out ratings now that they cost so much and will be erased after 6 months.

I do - but it has to be for something really extraordinary.

I only give ratings within the rate categories. If they are nice, I rate them on Behavior. If I find their avatar is appealing, I rate them on Appearance. If they have built something that I find nice, I rate them on Building. I rate just as much as I used to. To me it's not a matter of rating cost, since I never rate-mined anyone. It's a matter of the person earning their rates, which in my opinion, gives them more of a significance (at least the ones that I have given out). ;)

Well at this point... NEVER.

I mean everybody knows the ratings system is going away. I really don't understand why the Lindens are bothering with this transition phase. At this point I am afraid some noob is going to rate me before I have the chance to tell them not to waste their money!

My boyfriend re-rated me today. I yelled at him for throwing the money down the crapper.

I don't think I'll be rating anyone ever again.

I now give them rarely. Only cause it adds up and I can't afford to rate everyone that I would like to. Now, I only rate those who become good friends or when I come across a build that is amazing.

Now that they've started wiping out all the meaningless crap rate whoring scores that have had people unjustly leading the boards for many months, I will start using the ratings system again. I'd have prefered a complete wipe, but this is good enough, I guess.

And I'll rate like I always have. If you deserve it. And only in the category you deserve it for.

Well this is real cute. I checked Leaders to see how the latest change shook down, and all my decayed ratings show up as negative numbers on my weekly total. For example, this week I got a morale-building -99 for Building.

LL, you couldn't have intended this? Tell us it's a mistake, please.

I have up until now been giving ratings.

The increase in cost of doing so seemed to be to be an admirable thing, because it made a rating mean something. I continued to give ratings to the same extent as I had before. For a very short period the ratings system was working very well.

Unfortunately, and apparently in response to screams from the forums, the Lindens decided to make ratings temporary in nature, and as a result I will not be giving them any more. The ratings system is, in effect, dead from now on.

Have to agree with Selador on this....why bother rating at all when its temporary? I tell people when they do something I enjoy and when someone tells me they have enjoyed something I have done....well, thats much more appreciated than a rate.

Hmm. Well in contrast to Selador and Talens view, this is what I wrote in another thread:

I actually think the new rating system decay is actually even better! I love it! Ya know why? Because far too many people were sitting out there doing absolutely nothing, resting on their laurels for the one thing they did a year ago that was worthwhile and expecting their rates to speak for themselves.

Well now you have to EARN your rates and be consistently worthy of them. Which makes them meaningful! Finally! Woohoo!

I still do, but I am definitely a little pickier on who I rate, which is a good thing, right?

I used to rate all the pretty avies walking around, but I don't do that anymore.

Now, I find myself spending more of my rating budget on nice buildings and creations more often than I used to.

This led to my first uncomfortable situation last night. Someone, a VERY nice person, rated me. The deed was done, they can't take it back. It's too late to explain that rating people is now a total waste of money.

What is the polite thing to do?

I think I am changing my vote from "NEVER" to "ONLY if they rate be before I have a chance to explain to them that it's a waste". Otherwise I will feel rude to not rate them back.

I rate all of the time. I couldn't care less about the economy of my free-time these days, and I imagine a positive rate makes somebody feel 25 times better now! :D

I tried to stick with the old habbit of 'rate the whole crowd'
But eventualy 0 (ZERO) ratings returned to me.

So now i just don't rate anymore.
I do give all of my friends 3x rates.
And vica versa.

I don't rate very often anymore. I'm more likely to just send them L$75 and an IM.

I still give rates because I am a noted "rate miner" and have to keep my reputation up. At least I don't give rates to females wearing MTV slutware or males showing signs of extreme violence. I do have some standards.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts.
