Request to release in-game search statistics

I think that many developers and content creators in Second Life would benefit greatly from knowing what exactly Second Life residents are looking for. I don't know if the search statistics are logged into a database.

I would be interested in viewing search stats for the Find Places, Find Groups and Events search features.

I would like to encourage support from other developers in Second Life for Linden Labs to make this information public. First and foremost it would help us get numerous ideas, find things that haven't been created yet... and to get inside the mind of the consumer.

Examples of this in real life can be found in Google's Zietgiest and Overture's keyword search stats.

Good Idea

This would be a great help in knowing how to better list our locations/items/events etc etc, and also what it is people are looking for.

Good suggestion, Donnie.

Briliant idea, Donnie!

Let's find out what people are looking for so we can meet the demand.

I think this is especially important as LL is relying on users to create content, and are not doing it themselves..

Of course, object search would be nice to go alone with this..

So we'll have everyone and his brother putting keywords in their event and lot descriptions.

I can understand that the event search stats might cause a little gaming of the system and possibly repetitive events all over the world. Don't release that info then if it may be sketchy. The most beneficial information in my opinion would be the "find places" search stats.

Ace - not sure whether I am misunderstanding this but the inclusion of the word "gay" in this list seems somewhat misplaced. Care to clarify?

uhmmmmm.... I just tossed out what I figured are popular search words in the Find menu. I would imagine that "gay" is searched for a lot.

OK but I still feel that the inclusion of the word "gay" along with words such as slut porn sex and kiddie goes in a direction I would find questionable.

I'm sure that was not your intention but I hope you will accept that some people might find that offensive.

I dont see where that would be offensive, the things he named are some of the higher searches I would bet... and if you wanted to meta tag it you would add all the things he listed. sex and sexuality are always # 1 everywhere.

That would be the down side, unfortunately. For me personally, I'd just like to know the most commonly used terminology for the things people search for, that I might sell. For instance, do they search for Men's Clothing, Menswear, etc etc.

When it comes to mens clothes I use all of the above .

We need some more support for this idea to make any kind of impression that it may be useful.

i helped a local business build a yahoo store a couple of years ago and found this feature very useful for setting keywords in the metatags.

it would very much help people to consolidate their businesses to one location and save loads of rent money.

That is a great point Khamon, the shops and malls in second life are (more likely than not) very disorganized and uncategorized. Knowing the demand and classifying things based on specific keywords would be very beneficial to our world.

I'd also like to request a "Give me dwell" checkbox under the land edit options. This would essentially turn the given parcel into a dwell magnet, potentially doing the following:

- Tractor-beaming nearby agents into the parcel area and holding them there for a minimum of 5 minutes
- Choosing a random agent in-world and sending him/her a teleport request and/or an unsolicited invitation to a group (perhaps a separate checkbox for each).
- Relaying announcements about the parcel into the Ahern/Morris welcome area every 2 minutes, though possibly this could be a tunable parameter.

Did I leave anything out?

Ahhh, who will be the first information baron? I suppose as long as it was kept to ONLY non-private info it wouldnt bother me, but the minute I start receiving unsolicited advertisements I am gonna get cranky.
