Everquest in a Nutshell

When my best friend and I lived together she watched me play EQ for hours everyday not really understanding what I saw in it. One day she said to me, "Let me get this straight, you kill rats with a stick so you can get money to buy a better stick and kill bigger rats." Now if you think of your epic as a "better stick" and Vox as a "bigger rat" then she really has the game figured out.

Thats basically the gest of it. I hate the level treadmill

I got bored of both EQ2 and SWG rather quickly. I have stuck with SL far longer than any other MMOG.

Hmm... what do we know about Vox?

Well, Vox is white, mice are white.
Vox crawls around a cave, rats crawl around in caves.
Vox feeds off player corpses, rats feed off human corpses.
Vox is a dirty @&#^%ing rat who never @#^%ing dropped the frosted book for my pally epic.
Vox was constantly exterminated as soon as it was seen. Rats are exterminated when they are seen.
Vox lived in the realm of barbarians. Only barbarians would put up with rats in their home.
Vox is an ancient pest. Rats are ancient pests.
Vox is a giant, winged, scaled, ice-breathing, talking, magic-wielding ... okay, so we're close, very close.

Considering I'm an MMORPG addict who fanaticly tries every MMORPG to come out and is currently subscribed to two that are not SL...

Yeah, that's about the sum of it.

The few that have tried to be much more fell flat on their ass (Shadowbane), never attracted many customers to begin with (Dark Ages, no, not Dark Ages of Camelot, just Dark Ages), or died before they were born (Mythica).

Dark Ages is pretty cool, though.

So is World of Warcraft, though I'll admit they really havn't tampered with the "Hit rat, kill rat, buy new stick, kill bigger rat" formula... They just did it very, very well.

Really? My SO said WoW was terrible. I'd want to try it if it were actually good.

Well, I am no judge, but I find immersing myself in WOW to be completely enjoyable. Its not just the questing - the visuals in the game are extrordinary - the music is great... its just a fine place to explore and ride my spotted saber tiger. Its more fun then flying... it really is. Plus I am enjoying mining and weaponsmithing - looking for high level items - soloing on all the quests that I can - giving away stuff - its just alot og fun. I don't play PVP - only PVE.

I enjoy WoW more than any other MMORPG i've played. As Ursa said, the visuals are just stunning. The first time I went to a snowy area and realized I had frost coming from my breath, I thought "now they didn't have to do that, they just did that to be cool", and I've found lots of examples of that.

It's a lot of fun, I very much enjoy it. A++++++++++++++++ great seller! Items delivered quickly!

Why doesn't he like it? A lot of PvP'ers complain because they're unable to go into the newbie zones and gank low level characters, others complain because they can't take all your stuff if they kill you.

If he's not a PvP'er then I don't understand it, WoW is the best MMOG I've played. In fact I thought I'd given up the whole genre after I quit EQ, but WoW pulled me back in (in my best Al Pacino imitation)

Give it a try, it's more than worth it. The only real problem is it's own success. It's broken ALL sales records and Blizzard even admitted they did not expect anywhere close to this many people playing, so the infrastructure of the game is a little overloaded in spots.

They're getting it together now though.

I like the concept of EQ but personally I think it's a very stupid game.

World of Warcraft is one of the best in its genre if you like the genre. Otherwise it's nothing special. Me? I played it every night for a month or two after it came out. The graphics are beautiful, and while the game does have its share of problems, for the most part they don't take much away from the experience.

Then I discovered SL. My poor level 60 troll priest now wastes away in Undercity... My guildmates started wondering if I had an RL accident or something.

I'll probably have another go at WoW when the PvP battlegrounds come out, since I enjoy fighting other players the most. While WoW's version of whacking rats is enjoyable enough, it still gets repetitive after a while.

Everquest will ruin your life and make you fat.
