Ok... Im having a problem turning My home PC online. Does, it seems to turn on for a second or two, but then shuts itself off after that. Is there a reason for this? Or a plausible solution?

You might have a bad power supply Eins, or you might have unstable current going in that's triggering a breaker in your power strip (if you're using one). It could also be heat related. Is the computer well ventelated? Does the case fan work?

it is most likely your power supply. another possiblity is that your motherboard is grounding against the case and experiencing a surge that causes it to turn the power off.

the quickest, least expensive fix, pending a bad power strip, is to replace the power supply.

I recently had problems with no video signal on my computer.

First of all I thought it might be the power supply (I'm running 4 disks and a variety of tasteful flashing lights), so I got a 450W one.

This worked for a while, but then the same problem recurred.

I ended up taking the computer back to the shop, expecting to have to return the motherboard. But they told me it was a problem with the new power supply, which apparently is cheap and nasty. They have replaced it with a 350W one which, they assure me, is of much higher quality.

So far everything is working all right. Only time will tell if the problem was due to the power supply, but it goes to show how it can cause all kinds of strange problems.

Check for the obvious as well, Eins - most machines are set to force poweroff if the button's held down for a few secs.
If the button sticks, or the switch is otherwise flakey, it'll do exactly what you've described.

Don't rush things, you have to take it slow. Don't try to get online right off the bat. Sweet talk your PC, tell it how much it means to you. Nothing says loving like a RAM upgrade. And don't forget things like rounded cables. You might think they're girly or useless but trust me; computers go nuts for that stuff. Some Barry White won't hurt either. Good luck Tiger!

Yes, with power supplies, brand is more important than power rating.

Just threaten to replace it with a macintosh. Any self respecting PC will behave itself after that.
