SL has spoiled me. The people here are sooo great and friendly. If you have a question you can be swamped with people who are willing to help you. Not so true elsewhere.
I am currently beta-testing an RPG. I had a simple little question on the purpose of an item. I asked in a rather crowded location what the item was for...dead silence. I had to repeat the question in 3 different locations, all with many people, before someone deigned to answer. And then it was a snide reply.
People in SL rock.

Oh yeah I totally agree with ya. I play many FPS games and people can be pretty rude.
As I have said many times before, SL is unlike anything I have ever experienced.

We, the residents of Second Life have to be civil. Bad behavior will only lead to isolation. Helping others and making friends leads to successful businesses, grand builds, and piles o' cash. Most online games are much more about competition, and sharing info can work against you.
Also consider that SL is deep enough for all of us to discover new things months after we sign up. Just this morning, I discovered that the in-game tutorial has a female voiceover narrarating.

Its been a good ride indeed. I have been here since April and only encountered about five people who were really rude and unfriendly. Guess what, they are no longer here. Its easy to be nice here, I love my SL.

well there is a reason for that actually.
in world war 2 online its the same, everyone is willing to help out and answer questions, the players and devs are all extremely helpful and friendly.
secondlife and wwIIol share 2 things in common.
1:age
when you play counterstrike and other regular games the average player age is probably around 15 or 16.
in secondlife almost everyone is over 18 and most are somewhat older then that, the average age is probably somewhere in the 20's.
in wwIIol the verage age is actually about 30 years old because its mostly wwII buffs and sim players.
also there's a long history in the wwIIol community going all the way back to air warrior back in 87 i think it was.
2:market
both SL and wwIIol are sort of niche market games, neither have lots of major public exposure and neither really appeal to the average 15 year old twitch gamer.
infact the 15 year old quakers will come to SL and wwIIol with their usual mentality but in these games they are nothing,in wwIIol they will get killed 50 times over before they even see the enemy becuse they play like they usually do.
in SL they are impatient and rude and wont learn to model or script so they always see no point to the game since they dont want to put anything in to get something out of their experience.
so overall the market SL atracts is a more serious and dedicated group, because only people who are serious about their game experience and hope to stay awhile will put in the effort needed.

Good observation CC... SL is full of people who WANT to put something in to get MORE out of the experience. This is certainly one of the things that struck me in my trial period, and persuaded me to activate my account! You just don't get that with other games. I have to say, I've always loved FPS games, and since joining SL, I've hardly played anything else (busy FL aside). I am pleased to say that SL has spoiled me too!

Yep, an online community has never been better It may be because people come here to express themselves rather then to shoot other people (allthough that's possible of course ) Being nice and making friends gets you a lot in every game, if you're a FPS'er like i was (can't play anything else now ) you'll probably remember how cool it was when you met someone nice, how special and most of the time you'll probably play around with them on various servers. Now imagine a game filled with these people, TADA, SL

Dev, I think we might even be beta-testing the same game. I recently got into a beta I'd been waiting for a VERY long time, only to find that I kept logging out to go to SL. Which is not to say the other game isn't great, it is, and a month ago I would have fallen all over it! But, well... SL has completely ruined me. It's all about having prims of my own now! To hell with "building" a house if you have to go by the blueprints!

Well, the other game I am beta testing is Horizons. Can't talk about the game due to NDA issues. But, yes they are lucky if I am there even 4 hours a week, because I can't stay away from SL.

SL spoils me so bad i can't play another game now. If i do try playing another game all i look at is the way they made all the 3d characters as if they were to be prims and their textures. And i will say "lol, i could make this game in SL"

Yea, Dev, we're both beta-testing the same game! We should meet up in-game to chat! No, not in Horizons. In SL, of course, to chat about why we're there and not in the other! <laugh>
