Now this may seem like a silly question and I apologise if it is but, does SL have an emote command.

This sim is very different from any online game i've played but everything from text based muds to AO to EQ had what is called emote.

Now I understand vaguely the script and pose system.

But is there a simple command for the following

you type

/emote smiles
or
/me smiles

the locality sees it just like a say but like this
Calranthe charlton smiles.

not visual no pose or jesture just text.

In SL, you'll use "gestures" which you can program yourself and even create new ones.

In your inventory, look for your gestures folder. Open it up and double click one of the gestures. A window will open where you can change gesture settings..

This also happens to be one of my favorite emotes.

I'll do that often...

/me smiles
/me smiles softly
/me smiles warmly

etc.

do people use emotes very much in conversation? me and my friends usually don't mess with it except for stupid stuff like "/me spontaneously combusts" or things you couldn't possible see someone do like "/me understands".

of course i also shout "

" which makes absolutely no sense......
