Linden Labs: Best CEO Press Release Quote Ever?
Congrats to Linden Labs for releasing v.1.4 of their virtual world, Second Life. It's been a while since I've been to SL [my blog], but it sounds like interesting things continue to happen in that virtual world.
The 1.4 upgrade has a number of improvements to it. The one that's attracted the most attention from the techie community (and justifiably so) is the addition of XML-RPC support, which will tie the Second Life world much more tightly and interestingly to the world of the Internet, enabling people to pull things like newsfeeds and streaming audio into the world from diverse online sources.
But the one Linden highlights in the press release has to do with custom character animations, granting much greater control over avatar movement. Which leads to the priceless quote in my title:
“My fantasy is to be Uma Thurman in Kill Bill” says Philip Rosedale, CEO and founder of Linden Lab. “And now I can. I’d pay $10 for her yellow jumpsuit and sword moves and I’m sure other people would too. Custom Animations are going to liberate the world of Second Life in ways I’m sure I can’t imagine.”
Really, what CEO doesn't dream of a life of yellow jumpsuit-wearing havoc creation? But most of them don't come right out and admit it.
