Recently I had a quite a few people over to my place for an impromptu party. When I looked up at my "Edit Land" there was a 4 digit dwell number there. The next day in the transactions, there was something like a 34 dwell.
Can someone tell me how the two are related? Just what does the number in that window mean? I know pretty much how dwell works, but was wondering what that number in particular means.
Thanks in advance for the responses.

Thanks in advance for the responses. It's complex! If someone spends more than 5 minutes of time on your land, you start earning dwell. If you have a lot for a few hours, you'll get lots. Now the downer. At the same time, everyone else is earning dwell, so if those people leave after your party then spend the next 6 hours at whatever the club-du-jour is, then that club gets more. At the end of the day, everyone's dwell scores are added together... and you get paid as per your percentage of the total. So if you get 50 dwell of a total pot of 100, you'll het a lot of cash. If you have 4000 dwell but the total for the day is millions, you'll not get much at all. And the Lindens are very quiet on the actual calculations, so there's no way to tell how much you'll be paid any given day.

Dwell is going to be renamed "Traffic" in the next release. As if that does anything.

From: Hank Ramos Dwell is going to be renamed "Traffic" in the next release. As if that does anything. Dwell: to remain for a time Traffic: the movement (as of vehicles or pedestrians) through an area or along a route That means a lot..

From: Andrew Linden Here are the preliminary release notes:
Second Life 1.5.13 Preview Jan 10, 2004 =======================================
- Rating a user now costs L$25 rather than L$1.
- "Dwell" is now called "Traffic".
- Parcel "NO ENTRY" fence now renders with the correct orientation.
- Improved render frames per second while the Inventory is open.
- On the big World Map -- Telehubs icons and people dots can be toggled on and off.
- llSetPrimitive() now correctly sets the color/texture on attachments.
- Fixed a bug where the object Inventory panel would temporarily show the wrong inventory contents when selecting one object after another.
- "Top Picks" has been replaced with "Featured" which is a list of places determined by the residents of Second Life rather than Linden Lab employees.

Well that $L25 per rating will definately stop the ratings parties won't it!
*shakes head looking very negative*
Thanks Sio for the explaination. I think that is the best one I have seen yet.
