Rephrase the question:
- How many total Second Life counts exist? - How many individual customers are on record? (read as: alts) - How many users have been active in the last month? - Average user load per day? Some interesting, unofficial statistics: - As of last night, there were roughly 633 public sims listed on the grid, including private islands. - If every public sim in Second Life had 12,000 prims, there would be 7,596,000 prims in-world. This does not take attachments into account. - There can be 340,282,366,920,938,463,463,374,607,431,768,211,456 unique UUID keys in world at one time. That's 16 (0-9, a-f = 16) to the 32nd power. _____________________

All i want to know is about how many people have accounts and about how many people are on daily. Thanks for trying to help but you didn't at all. Not to be rude. Thanks, leptoon Angel |

This forum might be a better place to post this question, since it usually yields answers from the Lindens themselves. Most of us frequenting the General forum are just SL residents; we could make up a number for you, but it would be only a guess.

I have realy no idea what the last part of your statment was, lol. That many unique objects (avatars, textures, sounds, requests, etc) can exist in the world at one time. And yes... that is a REALLY big number. ![]() _____________________

It's a good question, Leptoon don't let these people put you off.
I'd be very interested in that number myself. I get about 1582 people online right now. I did this by picking 30 random sims, counted the people in them, and then multiplied by 21. Crimson - 0 Alua - 4 Elite Island - 20 Gourdneck-1 Akea-3 Beirne-0 Brown-0 Coniston-14 Duck-0 Ganymede-0 Hartwick-0 Isle of Tempest=3 Krittania=1 Maroon=12 Nestor=1 Orelle=0 Ritch=1 Shamrock=0 Suduffco=0 Uli=1 Zephyr=0 Tequila Isle=3 Sistania=5 Rosedale=0 Pooley=0 Calleta=0 Metis=0 Lotus=3 Kirkby=0 Isere=3 _____________________
Taken from The last paragraph on pg. 16 of Cory Ondrejka's paper "Changing Realities: User Creation, Communication, and Innovation in Digital Worlds :
"User-created content takes the idea of leveraging player opinions a step further by allowing them to effectively prototype new ideas and features. Developers can then measure which new concepts most improve the products and incorporate them into the game in future patches." |

I don't know exactly what you mean by the statement "don't let these people put you off," blaze. This is a question that cannot be definitively answered by most people who frequent the General forum, and a Linden response would be most accurate; hence, the reasoning behind the advice I gave in my post. Likewise. Where's Pathfinder when you need him? ![]() _____________________

Wow! That's an incredibly huge and impressive number, Jeffrey. I would never have thought anything could hold that much of anything, lol.
As to Blaze's comment, I do know exactly what he means. Not that Jeffrey's answer was an example of it, because I believe Jeffrey was just offering what interesting info he had, and yes, we players don't know all these facts and the other forum would be a better place to ask. But what Blaze is refering to, in my opinion, does very much apply elsewhere all over these forums. You just can't get information that (unlike this case) people actually do have. You ask a simple question and you are QUITE LUCKY if you get a direct answer, particularly one that doesn't assume a prior knowledge base which, as should be already evident from the question you asked, you don't have. Then, rather than people coming on to add more to answer your question, the thread devolves into some highly technical issue they all start to discuss among themselves. Not to say they do this on purpose, to put you off, mind you; maybe just that they enjoy that kind of thing and sort of forget you were even there asking your question in the first place. But sometimes, it almost looks as if they DO do it on purpose. More interested in showing off for each other, maybe, than in answering your questions. In any case, it leaves you and your question out in the cold while they natter on about things they know you have no idea what they're talking about. To illustrate: Assume I'm a new cook and I want to know how to bake a cake. "How do you bake a cake?" I ask. For answers, I get such things as, "Well, first of all, you want to make sure that the differential of your leavening ingredient doesn't overreach the potential of your flour base." PLEASE PEOPLE! When new players ask questions, TRY TO BE SOMETHING OF A GOOD TEACHER! (Not you, Jeffrey, or this case, or anyone in specific.) But PLEASE! Do not assume that everyone on here is a programmer! More important, don't assume that if one is not a programmer, one is hopeless anyway and can't possibly learn to do anything! I find the materials on the site for how to do things just as obtuse, by the way. Rendering it difficult to learn anything unless you can rope a savvy friend on the game who will feel sorry enough for you to teach you. I find that a huge failing on the part of the game makers and those who run this site - they try to be informative, but it just doesn't work - and, to a lesser extent, on the part of well-meaning players who take the time to answer questions, but really don't, and instead get into high-tech quibbles with each other. And you know, after quite a time of this, I'm starting to get the idea that people in the game and/or who made the game don't really WANT new players to learn. That the older creaters are kind of proprietary with their knowledge. Like maybe they don't want you to get good at what they are good at and provide them with competition. I know that sounds harsh, and I don't want to be harsh, or be nasty to those who HAVE tried to help me, but I can't help but get that feeling. That, combined with the obscurity of the directions officially offered on this site (which mistakenly assume a large knowledge-base already present), means it is extraordinarily difficult for me to learn things here. Now, there isn't much in this world that I haven't been able to learn when I'm motivated to learn it. In fact, there is NOTHING I haven't been able to learn when motivated. And I can tell you that I will learn what I want to learn to do in this game. But I can also honestly say I have NEVER been in any kind of learning situation (and I have been in many, and I am learned) that was quite so frustrating and new user-unfriendly as this one. Not to derail the thread or anything, lol - and definitely nothing against Jeffrey's comments here, for sure - and also, not to be ungrateful for the help I have received - but just, well, this is my experience, so I think I know exactly what Blaze means. coco |

17 people have accounts in Second Life. They just each have alot of alt accounts.
On 23 people can play Second Life at a time. More will cause it to crash. I hope this helped. _____________________

Thanks, Pathfinder.
And Coco, no offense taken. Besides, I'm always happy to simplify if asked. ![]() _____________________

Thanks also Pathfinder. That is the first time I've seen a "real" figure about the number of players, namely 20000 av's have logged in 30 days. Philip once said there were ??? active players but without defining active it is meaningless. I'd still like to know of those 20000 how many were past there seven day trial.
