COLUMBUS, Ohio (CNN) -- A 25-year-old man stormed the stage at a heavy-metal rock concert Wednesday night, shooting and killing Damageplan guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott and three others before a police officer shot and killed him, Columbus police said.

This really REALLY sucks for those of us who are fans of Pantera or any music for that matter. For this kind of thing to happen at a concert just totally baffles me. I just wanted to pay my hommage here, because it just sickens me.

Yes I saw that. It never said much about the guy who did it though it sounded random because he turned the gun on the audiance. Very sad. :(

My condolences to Pantera fans and to the families and loved ones involved. I never could get into their music but this atrocity against humanity is truly sad.

Tis a sad day indeed. :(

Twas a scary night last night as well, my best friends brother was at the concert. Luckily, he escaped the whole thing with only a few minor injuries, but with lots of psychological damage. Thank goodness there was a cop right around the corner that stopped the idiot before he hurt anyone else. *sigh* I just don't understand people. :(

edited to add:

There is really nothing known about the guy who did it, Rose. They think it may have been retrubution for the break up of Pantera. Some witnesses said that the guy was screaming "You broke up Pantera" before he started shooting. Why he took a hostage and started shooting into the audience....who knows. I still can't figure out why a break up of a band is reason to shoot someone. :(

Oh my gosh!! So sad! :( My thoughts go out to the family members and friends of those lost. And to the fans who will lose an artist in their lives. :(

Yes it was sad, although I was confused about what happened for a while.

Channel 7 in Chicago first reported it as a shooting at a metal club in the South side of Chicago (as opposed to Columbus).

Then they had to give this whole speech about the evil and dangers of metal. They showed footage of a mosh pit and stated that people go to those concerts to 'fight'.

They never once mentioned Darrell Abbott's name as one of those killed, and of course they had to show a picture of the shooter in his Marine uniform, even though he is no longer a Marine.

Sensationalism as opposed to simply giving the news, as usual.

It is always sad to hear about people getting killed while they were out trying to have some fun.

Being a Pantera fan for many years, I'm as shocked as the next. It's a sad place we live in when things like this occur. At least he died while doing what he loved to do.

It's a little scary because I live in Columbus and have been to the Alrosa on quite a few occasions. Given the way that place packs people in, it could have been worse. It was a somber day on all of the local rock stations as well. I heard several interviews including one with a DJ who was present when it happened. The scene he described chilled me to the bone because I could see it as if I was there.

I heard some asshat morning talking head on NBC say that "...the type of music that Damageplan and Pantera created most likely had something to do with the the man's decision to attack and his mental state."

Oh...great, now we can look forward to that old Ozzy/Iron Maiden argument from the '80s..where whiny politicians and mothers will scream that music must be censored to protect the young.

All of which is as friggin' stoopid as this whole P.E.S.T. thing......

Yeah - I saw that. There are so many people who will jump on any band wagon (even someone's death) to push their agenda. So sad.
