Rweard.. yet another lost aircraft

Deep and heavy sighs...

The wonder that is SL has eaten yet another aircraft of mine in that I was ejected while crossing a sim border and the vehicle continued flying onward.

This occured in the middle of the Tehama and Void 8 border junction. I was flying generally NW and watched on the minimap as the vehicle continued onward.

I offer a reward of $1000L for this aircraft... It's called Aero-Fat Bull's Horns and is light green/blue with a high metallic shine. It's a two seater.

I am both the creator and owner of the aircraft though it has one of Cubey's Helo scripts in it.

If you return it to me or IM me where it is so I can come and retrieve it (if it is not on your own plot), you get the reward.

I appreciate any help anyone might offer in retreiving this aircraft. It's a one of a kind build and was being test flown prior to being given away as a gift to a friend.

Thanks in advance.

(BTW, if I stuck this in the wrong forum.. sorry.. )

Is that the exact name of the object?

I am pretty sure that is damn close if not the exact name.. possibly no apostrophe in Bulls...

Did you find it?

No. How high were you flying it?

Probably no more than 200 meters as my draw distance was 128 and I could see stuff on the ground.

And Object Beacons didn't make it show up anywhere on the Map either? :( I hope you get your plane back, Korg.

Thanks Torley. It doesn't show on the minimap anywhere... I flew from grid to grid all over the western section of the mainland.

OTOH, a big thanks to Cubey who has provided me a finder script to stick in future vehicles. This is a truly friendly act and I owe him a grunch for the assist.

Okay.. this is seriously beginning to suck up the big wazzoo and I am seriously considering quitting building vehicles until something is done.

Yet ANOTHER freaking plane lost... yeah I have a finder script in it... and NO it is not telling me where it is...

I am so ticked right now that I am almost literally spitting blood at my monitor screen from either my ulcer or just because I can. I hate this sh* where you can't even fly at either altitude or any speed over 7 when you cross sims or risk losing your damn work.

It's not just the cost of replacing scripts... it's not just the lost work if you've made the vehicle yourself... it's not just the fact that you wind up littering the world. And it's not the embarrassment of having lost yet another freaking vehicle.

IT'S ALL OF THOSE THINGS.

LL - fix the damn system. You've had months and months to do so. I don't give a rat's f** how difficult you say it is... either do it or say it can't be done so I can make an intelligent decision whether or not to continue to piss away my money hoping to enjoy my time here.

This is just ridiculous.

That said, as usual, I offer the usual $1000L reward for anyone finding any of my vehicles and letting me know where they are. In this last instance, lag go to me I guess... I was flying somewhere around 230 meters, from Miru-Vari-Quat heading east towards a destination of Butsu. I never did see the vehicle fly onwards after suddenly I was ejected and reappeared inside a a mountainside build... some castle shopping area...

I may try to charge the reward against my tier fees, but of course that would be a TOS argument.

It may be a first, but I am in complete and utter agreement with you, Korg. Considering how small the sims are, flight across borders is inevitable, and necessary to enjoying SL. If the current system cannot handle the transfer of assets from one sim to another without dropping users, or significantly disrupting flight, then someone needs to get cracking on a solution.

Oh.. and partially to explain just why I am so hot about this today... This was the third time today I lost a plane... I managed to track down the other two... took me nearly an hour each time..

Took me relogging a couple of times because my keyboard locks up occasionally while flying (with and without vehicles) and I can't control my av/vehicle so I cannot do simple things I should be able to do. To clarify that.. my keboard does not lock up under any other software... under any circumstances...only while running SL.

Ardith, I appreciate the support. (hmm.. when have we ever disagreed publicly?)

I just wish LL gave us the same sort of support.

I've never noticed keyboard problems in SL, but the flight problems are omnipresent. I was watching a client fly away in an aircraft earlier this morning, and I watched as half the vehicle went flying into the ground of the other sim, while the other half appeared to blow apart in mid-air. Two seconds later, the plane blinked out of existence, and appeared immediately behind me. This is something which I've experienced first-hand innumerable times, but it was rather jarring to see it happen from the ground.

(Korg: I don't think I've ever voiced my disagreement with you publicly, but I sometimes find myself in disagreement with your political stances.)

I happened to be heading to Abbott's today to see Cubey about something. I tracked his plane as he was UNDERGROUND... moving from sim to sim in a weird pattern that is not discrenible to me. He finally popped back above ground and I caught up with him...

How many of us have had a similar experience? Flying along and suddenly you nosedive to the ground - not a rezzing problem, not a sim crossing problem - just a sudden loss of vehicular control. And you wind up below ground? Of course, you also lose control of your av completely and only God seems to know where you will wind up - LL doesn't seem to know.

It's more frustrating to me than any other experience I have had with computers... and I have been dicking around with them since 1969 when punch cards and paper tape use was still prevalent.

I didn't put the two together... public disaffection/disagreement with "my" politics and this thread. I usually manage to separate such issues from each other. More power to you that you could do it here... the one certainly does not have anything to do with the other here.

My apologies for bringing such an irrelevant topic into this discussion, Korg. It was merely an attempt to add a little substance to what would have otherwise been a completely banal "ME ToO!!1!" style post. Certainly your political views have nothing to do with your missing planes... or do they? Tune in to my next rambling post to hear the truth about the Linden conspiracy to bring the transit system to a halt! Unless They silence me first...

No apologies necessary.. I am being more than my normal curmudgeonly self right now... and my post was probably the wrong tone... anyhoo.. me too! to my own post! How about that? :)

Just curous, can't you take backup copies of the plane BEFORE you fly?

Uh sure.

Now.. the question remains... so what if I do have a copy of the plane? I am still upset that I need to go try to track down the lost plane so that it doesn't litter the world, so that no one gets "my 'maybe I can sell this' one of a kind designs", because the unique design I was going to give someone now has to be remade from scratch as there will be others who have seen it before the intended recipient of the gift. Yeah. I could keep backup copies... and usually do.

But I am getting old and don't always remember to do so...instead, I make the mistake of expecting LL to have a functioning product for my "too expensive for this type of software performance" land tier payment.

I know you weren't trying to be insulting.. but your response missed the core point.

Add a llDie function in the test planes. Or a die on email function. That could solve your woes.

And THAT particular solution suggests that I write off the flight script I just bought from Cubey to use because I can't script.

Try again? No.. on second thought.. don't. This was a combination rant thread and an offer of a reward... not a request for a solution from residents.

A solution from LL would definitely be welcome however.

So wait, the script is no copy? I have a free script that kills the object if I move more than 200 meters away from it. That could work, provided that you can copy Cubey's script.

Yes I 've seen (possibly) similar behaviour, but not with a plane, with a boat - a Bolinas Omega Yacht II to be precise. Right near a Sim border (Shona/Dacia) total confusion, boat disappeared, I ended up falling through the ground and I never got the boat back. Before this I had also experienced the boat suddenly dropping away from me on a few occasions. Makes me worried about taking no-copy stuff out for a spin at all somedays !
