Sl used to work fine on my dell 2400 until after christmas. Is there a higher requirement now?

System requirements should still be the same, but SL is so intensive that in any case, you'll want to get the best computer you can possibly get your hands on -- within reason and $$$ of course. Not only the CPU, but the video card and other components, obviously, as you don't want any bottlenecks being the weakest link in your processing chain.

You may have picked up a bug of some sort. Spyware or malware could be the culprit. Do a virus scan or run a spyware cleaning application, such as my two personal favorites, Ad-Aware and Spybot-Search & Destroy. Both have free personal versions.

Oh, these are among my faves. In addition to what Teeny recommended, I also recommend SpywareBlaster for the preemptive protection it presents. It is free as well for personal usage.
