just a rant don't continue reading if you're gonna flame.
I have had a bikini destroyed when the asset server failed, rendering the top part to be a white shirt labled (New Shirt) and I have IM'd the creator time and time again about the possibility of buying/getting a replacement and she have always replied "Shure thing" and then NOTHING! Frankly I am starting to get really sick of iming her getting a positive response then nada. she is a wellknown and very talented designer, I love her clothes but this is really getting to me.
any ideas on how to get this resolved are more than welcome.

hmm. well I am forgetful also... someone has been asking me to put my nipples up for sale (yes nipples lol) for over a month and I just havent got around to it for one reason or another.... When it comes to malfunction of product or something in that nature I do my best to respond as quickly as possible and take care of the matter...
I am not sure what this designer is doing, but if she took the time to reply to you on more than one occasion I dont see what the problem is with replacing the item... Depending how long you have waited and how many times you have attempted to contact her... I would suggest never to shop there again and just accept the loss... not much else you can do.

For me, when IM doesn't work (and I am really adverse to prolonged IM in general), I ask to be TPed or to meet inworld somehow. Serena, we're talking about this right now (whee, multiple levels). I'll ask her about this next time I see her. Promise. She needs clones bigtime.

this wasnt meant negatively against the designer, she's just busy and more than likely forgot about it. the items involved happen to be some of my favourite pieces so I would really like to buy/get them replaced. I have no intention to stop buying her designs cause I like them to much this just frustrated me.

She should be able to click the profile button in your IM window, call up her inventory, find the top in question and drop it on when when you ask, though. o.o
Unless the top needs to be re-uploaded, but I personally would never remove anything I made from inventory, just in case a backup is needed. Or unless there's some other reason she can't do it on the spot.

Part of the problem is that SL doesn't give us very good tools for keeping "to do" lists. Sometimes people have to ask me something three or four times til they either catch me at the right time and place or it manages to get beyond my pitiful short term memory. IM's aren't always the best way to get someone. I'm beyond the IM cap almost every time I log in so I have no idea what IM's weren't delivered, and unfortunately neither do the people who sent them. The best way to get a really busy designer in SL to take care of you is to pester them... a lot. Chances are they won't mind. In fact they'll probably be thankful. I know I hate to forget about something I promised to do, but it happens. Sometimes things just fall through the cracks.
On a related note, when you send an inventory item to someone, put it in a folder. Name the folder something like "_from so and so." Include a notecard in the folder that says what you sent and why. I know I sometimes get a dozen inventory items sent to me in a day. The only way I know is that I get an IM to email that says "so and so has offered you inventory." It doesn't say what it is so it can be a royal pain in the arse to try and figure out who sent me what and were it ended up. If it's in a folder at the top of my inventory it makes my life soooooo much easier,

I keep my To-Do lists in an internal blog file or WordPad, and I may be trying to use my profile's My Notes more. I'll just mention that I am a good friend of Serena and the talented designer, and have been talking to both to clarify. There is no blame here: just a matter of miscommunication. Something got lost in the gaps, and so we shall move on. Also, Serena meant no malice and tried to edit the original thread title because of the word "forgetful" when this wasn't the case, but I think a forum bug prevented it from happening. In my personal experience, when transmissions get fuzzy, I try to meet someone inworld, face-to-face, and then actively ask them questions as to learn more about their perspective. I find it helps me a lot. Context... I seek to understand. *group hug*

Although this will not help someone who bought an item months ago, the people at secondserver.net have implemented a feature whereby merchants can re-send merchandise out to people who have bought them. This will only be useful for merchants who sell items with a no-transfer permission set, but it does allow them to fix bugs and send out updates quickly and efficiently to all their customers.
The neat thing about this is that it's a great passive way for them to build up brand-loyalty from you as a customer. If you buy from the secondserver.net website or any of the vendors that are tied to them, you improve your chances of receiving update fixes, patches and upgrades to products, because they are able to persistently track sales and send updates to "everyone who bought product X"
I have a feeling that the other online vendor sites will be implementing features like this soon. When they all do, it will benefit you to buy through a web-linked service. It won't cost you more to do so, in most cases, but it will be comparable to the difference between buying from a mom-and-pop store and buying from a recognized national retailer.
