I tell friends about the game in Europe and they keep saying "O I can't play" and point at that line. Very strange. I know Europeans who play just fine...

There is nothing stopping your friends from playing if they want to. LL isn't going to kick them out for not being from N America.

I think it is not a matter of discrimination or anything like that--really, it's about technological support. Anyone can join... but, if a non-US/Canada user has like, keyboard problems because they are using a different technology, Linden Labs won't be able to cater to that. That's how I heard it explained, anyway.

Strange to bother mentioning it tho. Keyboard problems I've had are very slight, just @ and " in dif positions. Really, putting 'nth america' only on the page is losing 'em customers and keeping outside of US prime time pretty quiet Pirate

Some other European countries (to my knowledge) have more 'exotic' keyboards in that they are more different from the US keyboard. Also internationalized versions of windows can cause weirdness in some programs sometimes - usually I think with text handling but maybe elsewhere too. It is probably those kinds of issues.
Another issue may be hours - support hours are catered to the US and Canadian time zones.

Keyboard problems are worse for other Europeans, the UK gets off lightly here. Scandinavians seem to have the worst trouble.
I think the whole north americans only is more of a 'cover your ass' legal type thing until all these little problems are sorted.
But yeah, I'd love more Europeans here (and there do seem to be more arriving each week). I managed to get to a 7pm PST event once (insomnia sucks) and I was amazed at how many people were online.
