My monitor is dead....well sorta. The monitor cable is missing one of the pins, how the hell I managed that has blizted my last 3 brain cells. Does anyone know if it is possible to replace a fixed (as in does not detach from the monitor) cable, replace a pin in a monitor cable or if neither is plausible/cost effective, what gauge would you suggest I use while I blow the obsession box to high purgatory?
Thank ya much in advance ![]() _____________________

![]() I've called every computer repair company in my area and they all say that I have to buy a new monitor...grrrrr maybe I should try tv repair...untill then I am stuck using my stone aged tecra 550cdt laptop. The mastadon outside my window running the hard drive is a bit noisy though hehe _____________________

I was comparing two monitor cables recently (both of which I have used for a while) and noticed that one was missing a pin, or maybe two (at both ends) while the other had all pins. I take that to mean that not all the pins are used (at least not by all monitors).
Beyond that, I bet that the cost associated with fixing that connector would approach the cost of a comparable new monitor pretty quickly. CRT monitors are dirt cheap all of a sudden, and the LCDs are starting to get competitive on price. With LCD makers rolling out (literally) these new HDTV sets measured in feet rather than inches they'll probably start making computer monitors out of the leftovers. Hopefully prices will keep coming down. _____________________

Definately try TV repair if thats the case. A seasoned tech can cut the cable and place a new end on it.

The mastadon outside my window running the hard drive is a bit noisy though hehe The reason for that is that monitors are pretty cheap, and repair companies charge a lot for repairs. Basically, it's rarely worth the time and effort required to repair a damaged monitor unless it's something you can do in two minutes with a leatherman tool and some duct tape. _____________________

True, true...what I don't understand is why the cable is fixed in the first place. It seems that it would make far more sense to have a detachable connection which would only require the purchase of a new cable instead of all this malarchy with cutting the wire and resplicing a new connector. ahh but then again I shouldn't bitch about that which is out of my control. _____________________
