Hillary Clinton gains approval among Republicans

Like her or not like her, she and her friends are brilliant. A 12 point approval jump among Republicans for a woman considered by many to bitterly divide the masses.

She will be untouchable in 2006 and Republicans will only be able to field a candidate to slow her down and keep her from focusing attention on raising money for other Dems around the country.

Does she have a shot at 2008? Who has been more vetted in the public eye than Hillary Clinton?

WOW!! do you think we could end up with our first woman prez? Ya know...I saw her and McCain on Meet the Press this past weekend and they would make an unbeatable third party ticket.(becoming a third party would help with the delicate question of wether to run dem or repub...lol) Now...the question would be who would be the prez and who would be the vice prez. Even if she was vice prez...she would be the first one.

Well, as long as we are playing what if.

What if Hillary Clinton won the Dem nomination and Condi Rice won the Republican nomination?

There is no way in hell I would ever vote for Hillary. What experience does she having? Really? Her Senatorial career has been lack luster. She was one of the crappest first wives in the past century.

I for one am not falling for her bait and switch on her position on abortion. I can't believe people put her on this pedestal. She is a person I would point out to my future daughters and tell them to never aspire to be like that woman. If she is what a strong female role model is supposed to be we are in grave trouble.

I have to agree. For instance, she never ran over her ex-boyfriend with a car and killed him like Laura Bush. C'mon Hillary, give us some drama already!

First Female President

First off, if we're going to talk about killing people, let's talk about the Kennedys shall we? What's their body count at nowadays?

Second, I wholeheartedly agree that we may be looking at our first female president, and I for one will welcome the presidency of Condelezza Rice. :D

We aren't talking about killing people. We are talking about notable information about First Ladies.

I've met Ted Kennedy. Ted Kennedy is a friend of mine. Ted Kennedy is no lady!

Neither is Hillary, so what's your point?

She was the First Lady of the United States for 8 years. Show some respect...or she'll put a hit out on you!

Well, let's be honest, not even the most sexist Republican is going to say Hillary doesn't have the balls... I mean toughness to deal with national security.

A few years ago, I shuddered at the prospect of Hillary for Prez, but she has been on a moderate kick since her Senate election, and if she really has embraced Bill's Third Way schtick, she could be very interesting. I suspect she needs to lay a bit more groundwork to get over the whole HillaryCare flap, but she has some time.

As for Condi, yeah I might trust her on foreign policy, but I haven't heard much about her views on trade, economic policy, social issues and the like to be particularly excited yet.

You are dreaming... neither would abandon their respective party to take a back seat at the big dance.

In 2008, after passing the requisite constitutional amendment, the Republicans will run Arnold Schwarzenegger for president and Condi Rice for vice president.

The Democrats will run Hillary and Bill Clinton. Interchangeably.

All hell will break loose. Red states will turn purple. Blue states will turn lavender. Shock and awe will pervade the planet.

Very true. McCain will also never waiver on his stance on abortion. He doesn't like it. He doesn't support it. That is a defining issue for him. I can't ever see him changing.

Not to mention, he could run for President himself backed by a Guiliani, Rice or any handful of Republicans and probably do well. Well enough to win.

As for the Arnie idea, I can't imagine an amendment passing to allow him (at least not in time for 2008). But when I perused the Constitution, it seemed the "native" limitation was on the President only, not the Veep. Now it would be weird to elect a VP that can't consititutionally take over the Presidency. But I'm curious if I missed something that applies the native restriction to the VP as well, maybe I was just drunk when I was reading it over.

This came up in fictional discussions about Bill Clinton running for VP.

Basically the sentiment was that the only job specifically outlined for the VP is to preside over the Senate and take over for the President. As such, both would be unqualified for the job.

Awww, unqualified? Where's the love for Bill? President for 8 years counts for nothing?

Just kidding, I get it. Thanks, I knew there had to be something to avoid such a strange scenario.

I'd say forget the electoral process. Thunderdome all the way! Two go in, one comes out! :D

That wasn't an oversight. In those days the winner was the president and the runner up was vice president, so you couldn't (technically) run for vice president.
