One of my friends, Jessica, is moving to the U.K. to be with a guy she's known for a while over there and to go to film school. She's planned this for a while, saved up money, and told a few of her closest friends that she was leaving. She didn't tell everyone because there's a few people in town she just doesn't want to keep in contact with.
Her plan was to come up to Toronto, where I live, to get her passport and take a little vacation, then leave. She arrived Friday and we've been having a blast. Then, yesterday, I called a friend back home to chat and got a worried response because Jessica's roommate has been saying a lot of things, the short list being:
-Jessica is insane, she has a physical certificate of insanity (Someone seems to be taking the 'certifiably insane' idea literally. My aunt's been institutionalized frequently and never given such a thing) Now, Jessica does have quite a few issues related to her upbringing, and I could even buy that she might be bipolar or such. But with so many people in my family with mental illnesses, I have trouble believing that she could be full out loco without people who have known her for years noticing something.
-She left behind a 'death certificate' (a legal one apparently sent to her from the government when she changed her name. Yep, the government tells you you're dead if you change your name)
-She changed her name specifically to avoid being caught by the
police. (It doesn't work like that, you'd have to be really stupid to think it would. I mean, the government has records of the name change.)
-She's planned on killing her ex, me, and the guy she's going to go live with, in our sleep. I laughed out loud when someone told me this. I also love that people down there thought someone was coming to kill me, think it's serious enough to talk about constantly, but contact neither me nor my family nor the police. Though she has once kicked me softly in her sleep. Maybe that's the big plot... death by sleeping foot!
-Chris, the man she's going to go be with in the UK, is a poor sweet innocent little boy who doesn't know she exists and knows nothing about her. She's stalking him. Since I've been talking to Chris for a while online and on the phone, I -know- he knows her very well and has for years. He adores her, it's quite sweet. Yes, he's 17, but she's just turned 19, the age difference is hardly odd and not criminal.
-She stole 3K from Brandi before leaving town (which isn't likely or she wouldn't be sleeping on my floor. That and it's a line of credit, she'd need to go through a teller, produce ID saying she's Brandi, and know the pin, etc. in order to do such. Couple this with all the other inconsistancies, and I think Brandi is just trying to pawn off her school debt on someone else) Oh, and Brandi isn't going to the police about the stolen 3K. If I really had 3K stolen from me, the police would be the first people I would talk to.
-She stole the money because her mother wouldn't release the loan funding for her tuition for the UK film school. Thing is... her mom did release the loan funding. Jessica is all set for school.
There's about a dozen other things... rangeing in stupidity from 'She gets really excited about boys she has crushes on, that's a sign of her being crazy' to 'She said she grew up in upstate New York, but she only lived there occasional, so she's been lying about her past'.
I apparently am the only person to hear this story, pause and go, 'Um... that makes no sense at all'. I talked to some other friends about this, and when I started pointing out the holes in Brandi's story I could practically hear the lightbulb turn on in their brains.
It all just seems like such incoherent rubbish to me.
And thus ends my rant.
