Group land and 1.2

How will the transition work?

That's a good question...groups don't get land allotments, afterall. So unless it takes a tiny (relative) portion of each member's land allowance.... what happens?

How group land ownership works is that members of the group can allocate part of their land allowance to the group. Group officers are then able to purchase land for the group using the group's combined allowance.

i imagine it'll work just like claiming our personal land did. the group will have some grace period during which the members will have to allocate enough allotment for the officers to be able to approve the purchase of group plots.

if they don't complete the transaction by the end of the grace period, they'll lose the land. i'm not a linden of course, just guessing. my group rebought or released our land until all this is worked out.

the only reason i can see for owning group land with what we think we know now is to share prims easily. but i think even that won't be necessary if we can share them individually and allow a list of people to build on our land etc.

unless i'm missing something, which is entirely possible, groups will have no useful function in the new order. that may be why they're not concentrating on implementing the code.

bumpity bump, this is the third thread i've noticed on this subject, some linden clarification of whats in the works would be spiffy.

I have a vague recollection of hearing something about group members having to manually allocate some of their land ownership rights to the group owned land.

So group land without alocation will just quietly go away in 1.2? Makes sence.
