What's the deal with the "Void" sims? Are they officialy now and forever "protected land" or are they undeveloped sims that will go on the market as first land someday? The reason I care is because I'd like to open a marina business at some point and I'd need to buy land with access to lots of open water to make it worth it...most places on the "ocean" are limited by the edge-of-the-world barriers and rivers just don't quite cut it! I'm also interested in experimenting with underwater-themed sims but that's more likely to be in the distant future.

i think they just fill in the gaps with empty, linden owned, mostly underwater land to allow us to fly or boat easily across the grid. i suspect that they're all hosted on one server so will never be buildable or such. if the load tests pan out well enough, we might see them all over the place in a few weeks.

yea for void sims. whose idea was that anyway? ha ha ha

I second the "yea for void sims" thought. I have used them a number of times.... to fly around in and to go submarining...

They offer opportunities for play that other sims don't. Even though my mostly water plot allows me to submarine for fun, I don't have nearly the room to play in in an unobstructed and relatively deep area of water as I do in the void sims.

Keep them... and even keep them coming if possible.

I also enjoy the void ocean sims, scooting around in my sailboat. I didn't go underwater to notice... is the ocean floor decorated at all? It would be cool to go exploring and find aquatic flora and fauna, coral reefs, mysterious deep fissures, etc. But maybe that is negated by the nature of the void sims themselves.

I think the void sims are purposely empty so as to give as much processor power as possible to travelling avatars.

i like void sims too. holes in the map are weird and disconcerting. not the most compelling argument but i still like 'em.

I really appreciate the fact that the Lindens are experimenting with ways to fill in the spaces between sims and give us some large bodies of water to play with. It has been an occasional request for quite a while to open up those areas and make the world a bit less fragmented.

There's nothing better than sailing through a large expanse of water in the middle of the night with only the light of the moon to guide you.
