In the interest of helping others learn how the MegaTowers are being run, I'm posting again the prim and financial worksheet for the MegaTowers.

Thanks for posting this data, Hank. I love spreadsheets.
Although I get a lot of #VALUE errors on all of the worksheets, like on MegaTower 1, in cells F-K31,35,36,40,41. All of the errors are the same "A value used in this formula is the wrong data type." I poked at it and can't find which variable from the formula is the wrong data type. I'm using Excel 2003 SP1. Also a lot of the header boxes are black text on black background, too. Are you making this in Excel or something like OpenOffice? _____________________

mmm, I'm using Open Office to generate the MS Excel Compatible version of the spreadsheet. Do you have Open Office to open it with?

That second version didn't work either. I downloaded and installed OpenOffice and it's working fine in it.
Looks like OpenOffice doesn't create the 100% compatible files it says it does. ![]() Cool either way. _____________________

Thanks, Hank. Useful info for us non-business types trying to understand how the wheels turn. I actuall have always wished I could get my hands on the books of a McDonalds, Radio Shack, or something like that, just to see how they make their $$$ one hamburger or battery at a time
![]() BTW. Had tons of #VALUE errors too, using Excel XP (2002). I'll check it out using Open Office (Solaris) at work tomorrow. - T - _____________________

KOffice doesn't like the first version, giving the same errors that Excel does. It *really* doesn't like the second version.

This should be a fixed version for Excel 2000, though you might want to wait for Hank to verify.

Thank blaze, looks good. Guess I need to install Excel 97 just to get the conversion correct
I had thought that Open Office did a good job with simple conversions like this. The sheets I created use very simple formulas and arithmetic.I downloaded the beta of Open Office 2.0, and resaved and reuploaded the file in my original message. See if that works okay now. _____________________

From what Aaron is saying, it looks like it might be a particular Date Format that is the issue, rather than arithmetic or formulae.

I'm not gonna bother looking at the sheet, but..
Newer versions of M$Office will intentionally bork up files it knows are from OpenOffice. This could be a glitch, but I COULD also be entirely right. |
