So where exactly did the word "rez" come from?

The only other time I heard the word "rez", before I knew it as "creating an object out of thin air", was a PS2/Dreamcast game that I play, which is a really really good game :D

Does rez have a non-SL meaning? Dictionary.com only gives a link to an acronym finder, where the only definition is "Resurrection (Everquest)". Or can we assume that the Lindens have invented this particular word/definition combo?

Rez (verb): To create an object or objects out of thin air.

So, anyone know? Lindens? Bueler?

Yeah, we all just liked 'rez' and it pretty much stuck. A-la-Tron, seemed a correct description of what we were literally doing - fabricating on the simulator in real time the 'atoms' of which an object was made.
