Calling all RL First Responders My team is building a sim with the goal of reinforcing lessons learned during Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training. We have created a replica of a real town (Hanover, NH) and are adding a simple disaster scenario that will demonstrate some of the response elements learned in CERT training. I'm looking to put together a group of emergency responders at all levels, from professionals to volunteer citizens, to provide advice, foster emergency response discussion and to help build a first responder community inside of Second Life. I have created a group called "First Responders" that anyone who is interested can join. You can also IM me in-world or send me an email at Satchmo.Prototype@gmail.com The goals of the sim are very loosely defined, and I'm hoping the emergent behavior of Second Life's community will help shape the sim into a useful resource for community emergency response team members. The town's infrastructure is complete. Check it out by visiting the sim named "Response" Thanks, and I look forward to meeting the world's RL first responders and disaster management experts. FYI: Other work we have done with Synthetic Environments for Emergency Response System can be seen here.

Very cool.

Thanks for all the positive feedback I've recieved here and in-world. Looking for more emergency responders in the community. I know your out there The goal of CERT training is to teach citizens how to first take care of themselves and thier family in the case of an emergency. Then if your resources permit, to help an overwhelmed professional emergency response system support your local community.

This Saturday, September 10th at 1 PM (GameTime) Verbena Pennyfeather will be giving a talk in Response on medical triage. Triage is a system used by medical or emergency personnel to ration limited medical resources when the number of injured needing care exceeds the resources available to perform care so as to treat the greatest number of patients possible. The process of triage assigns casualties in to injury severity categories to assure the most critically wounded are attended to first. Trained volunteer citizen responders may be asked to help with triage in mass casualty incidents that overwhelm the local emergency response team. Verbena is a Combat Lifesaver in the US Army.

Outstanding idea Satchmo - I've sent you an email about joining, I'd really like to learn more and improve my skills and SL has potential for being a really good medium for doing that.

Not only is it a really cool idea... the town is beautiful to look at too! I don't know what to call it, maybe like a movie set (I mean that as a compliment as the buildings are so beautifully laid out). "Replica" is an understatement! Straightforward and a lot of care has been put into it. I like the construct named "Merill Lynch". I don't know what a New Hampshire town is supposed to look like, but if this is, WOWZERS! Hope good simulations are run.

Well now I have to visit this site. I was a resident of New Hampshire right up until the age of 21. I can't wait to see what you've done!

I am not familiar with that particular town in NH (mostly lived in Nashua and Manchester), but the build certainly had a NH FEEL to it. It was like visiting home Very well done!

What a beautiful build and what an incredibly meaningful purpose. Good luck Satchmo, and let the community know if there is any way we can help you. You give value and purpose to Second Life far beyond it's creator's intentions. Bravo!
