i was watching Animal Planet last night, the show was Most Extreme. they were talking about most extreme jumpers. they started talking about kangaroos and went in to a short history of the name. Kangaroo - (Aboriginal) n: i don't understand what you are saying yes, when you see one hopping about, you're looking at a 'don't understand what you're saying'. hahahahaha

Ab 1: I saw this thing and it was hopping and it had a baby sticking out of its belly.
Ab 2: What? A bunny? Was it sick?
Ab 1: no it was big. It really hops far and it has a long tail

that's hilarious! much funnier than what really happened! heheh.. apparently what had happened was when some foreigners came around exploring they asked some of the aboriginals 'what are those big hopping things'. the response was 'kangaroo'. i like your better though, Misnomer.
