Hi! Im a newbie, and Im not sure if this is the right forum or not for this. I have a couple questions about land, as I have an allotment that I am not currently using, but would like to in order to put down a house. First off, are we going to be able to buy land from the new "sim" squares? I find that in the current available land, people are squashed together rather uncomfortably. The land that I've seen available is either on PG land, or some small underwater parcels on mature land. I am hesitant about moving to PG land, because it gives me the impression that I have to stick to Disney-esque behaviour. But I have not been around enough to know the rules. Also, I have heard that people auction off their land parcels. I have seen some plots that say "Sale Pending". How do we find out about these auctions? Another question I have is about water. Can we create water, and can we take it away - or are we stuck with the land type that we are given? I have other questions, but Ill cut it off here to keep it short.. Sorry if this is not a newbie forum.. I dont see any other forum names that look like the right place. Thanks! Krikket

I would suggest being patient. Most of the land in the new sims along the north of the world will probably be auctioned. As people move into those new plots, they will leave land behind in other parts of the world. Open your world map and choose to see "land for sale" at the top of the map panel. This will give you a better idea where to find available land. There is not a lot of difference in PG and Mature areas. You will see more nudity and perhaps hear more foul language in Mature areas. Explore around for awhile and see for yourself the difference in PG and Mature sims. "Pending Sale" land is land that is already secured by a player, but their subscription level (land tier) has not been verified. Auctions are fairly new, not sure about all those details. You can not make water, but you can simulate water with a transparent object with a water texture and phantom script. You do have tools to raise and lower (terraform) land that you own. Good luck out there, be patient and have fun.

You've come to the right place! You can get the official story on land and auctions in the announcements forum, and here: v 1.2 faq As for unofficial explanations, here's a few: Land purchase now requires you to confirm that you want it in your Account Summary on the website. If you buy some, I *think* it sends you to the website to do this. For people who already owned land, they still need to go and confirm it, and if they haven't, their land says (Sale Pending) when you look at it. This doesn't mean it'll go up for sale, just that it might go public if they don't get it confirmed! Auctions have been done informally in the past, but they are a new feature to the game. The Lindens are using this method for new land that they open up for people to settle, and there's going to be a spot on the website where you can go to place a bid. Likely it will work similar to land confirmation: Click on a parcel that's marked available for auction, it'll give you a lot number and you'll go to the website in the Auctions page and place your bid for that parcel there. This is not set up yet. Water: In each sim there is a water level (usually at 20 meters). When you own a piece of land, you can edit the shape of it to a certain extent. you can raise, lower, or flatten the ground, and if you lower it below the waterline you get a water parcel.

First off welcome to SL Krikket! Not much I can tell you above what the others have already. Just wanted to also note that we just had a major shift in the way land buying and some other things are handled in SL. And we have until Jan. 12th to get some things sorted. After that date, you will start to probably see land opening in areas where it is not currently available. As well as a few other differences. We are just all sorting out our builds and current land now, and after Jan 12th, you will see things start to settle more. Enjoy yourself and hope to see you in world sometime!
