Lets just hope someone doesn't try to get rid of Thanksgiving next because we give thanks to God for our food lol.

I don't thank god for my food - I thank the animal for giving it's life so that I can eat.

I thank the native Americans for all their great land! C'mon now, what's a little small pox, genocide, and forced internment compared to having a whole holiday where we can eat turkey and dress like pilgrims! No wait! We can dress like 'Injuns" as well, we can say things like "How!" when we meet people and spout phrases like "You speakum with fork tongue, kemosabe"...Then we can reinact the forced attempts at converting us to christianity! Yippee! Lets make a friggin' float! I'm kidding, of course...ok, not completely, just sorta...

Not to worry - we'll win it back - the real question is whether or not we will want it after what it has been through.

Man I'm sorry for you MrsJackel, I know you shoulda seen this on coming and with good reason. You can thank the dead animals, who gave them life? Oh I know.. Thier parents hahahaha. You know what I'm talkin bout As for giving Thanks, I'd ask an American Indian, livin in poverty, on a reservation, after being murdered and stripped of thier culture because white men just couldn't physically stand up to them so destroyed them, what they think of it??? Let's ask some African Americans what they think of it, and if the know what thier forefathers were doing that first festive day, umm, being whipped and starved and having a nation built on thier backs that to this day continues to persicute them to the fullest?!! I'm thankfull for my family and my close friend, and for people like MrsJackel who just want to bring some joy and happiness to us here so we all can feel loved

My sincere apologies MrsJakal - I feel bad that I contributed to the down fall of the good intentions of your thread by perpetuating the cowboy vs indian, christian vs non-christian thing.
I appreciate history and as such, appreciate your original post.
Rose

Hey sweetheart, there it is, I think your inclusion of the word "History", which to me implies something along the lines of chronological facts, will invite those intellectual, and not so intelectual, to hover like birds of prey above your thread. Maybe just "What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving?" See, resort to historical atrocities and you can slam em right back into place, "Did you read the title?", complain about past "history" somewhere else, "thankfully" yours Get the drift?! Best of luck to you, and we all still love you!!!

It was only for knowledge purposes not a debate. Thank you Rose, I know that your intentions were good...Huggerz. I was just dissapointed is all. Jonny, you are absolutely right. I shouldn't expect anything less with these forums. Lesson definitely learned.

From: MrsJakal Suavage If i could delete this thread I would I liked your original post. I'm not religious but that doesn't mean I don't have things to be thankful for. I do. I figured it was a matter of time before someone would point out the irony that the holiday was originally associated with indians who were, as a group, mistreated and (often) murdered by the ever growing population of outsiders streaming in. Ironic, yes, but not a counterarguement to your original post and intentions.

Ahh I get your drift now! See this is why I love you! That is very kind and thoughtful. It's beautiful that you are trying to share with other cultures and people. I love it. That being the case then you should also be welcoming all aspects of this historical day, pro and con. Hey, I'm not a shit starter, to the contrary I've tried to even help other resolve diputes, mostly to no avail, but I tried. Nonetheless, and in the spirit of giving and sharing knowledge of all things to and with all people the universe over, and my respect and admiration for MrsJakal, I will only comment hear on your thread to progress your original idea of enlightening others to some of or history and custums. Sorry if I in anyway offended you. Was never my intention, just to bring about the realization that the facts of history are far different then our current day commercialism of our holidays here in the US.

I was not offended, I'm fully aware of the past and our American History. I should have started off the post differently like I have stated previously. I'm sorry if my orginal post offended those that have different points of views. I wasn't trying to start controversy. I'm going to re-edit it as it doesn't serve the purpose I intended it to.
