Just looking for some advice on how to handle a situation that came up. I have a nice, beach-front lot of approx. 2400 sq m. in size. On one end, I have built a colonnade-style gallery that features tasteful photographs of the male form (absolutely no frontal . The ends of the colonnade are open-air entryways, while the broader sides feature smoked glass walls which obstruct the view from the water and roadways. Today, I received offline IMs from a neighbor I haven't met (presumably of the landless lot) asking me to wall off that side of my colonnade (presumably to block his/her view). My question: To what extent do you think it's appropriate for neighbors to make such requests? On the one hand, I paid a lot of rw $ for my lot, and somewhat resent the request. The neighbor has many options for handling this from his/her side of the fence (heck, he/she could put up a fence for that matter). Further, if this behavior were to become pervasive, we might as well have "deed restricted" sims. On the other hand, I can understand that some people may have different values and standards than my own. I want to balance my desire to express myself creatively with that of being a good SLitizen. Given that the metaverse is evolving, I'd like some feedback before making a response. Your honest feedback is much appreciated. *Edit: PS - Yes, my lot is in a mature sim.

As long as you are within the TOS, you have every right to display it.
If it bothers your neighbor, they should look in another direction, or move.

The TOS states that even in a mature sim, 'adult' materials can not be visible from outside.
If any of that could be considered adult
and
if any of that can be seen from any angle (say, an open doorway),
then
They may have a valid request.
If you're in doubt, you can always tell the person (politely) that if they want a wall, they can build one themselves (no sense in you using your prims on something they want), but if they take it to the Lindens, there IS a chance the Lindens will tell you to build a wall or something.

the rumours of my evolvement are greatly exagerated.
build the wall. they asked nicely. they didn't:
call a linden first, abuse report you out of hand, complain about you in the forum, plant a huge tree that blows half into your gallery, or build a really ugly, noise, light source to ruin your view.
now buck it up and show a little consideration back.

Artwork & Photography that is clearly non-pornographic, is as far as I know not considered Adult material. I'd ask a linden casually what is/isnt considered 'adult' nexttime one is online. (Char / Kelly - and the other liasons are the best to ask for TOS interpretations)

build the wall. or else they will, and it may be hideous. not everyone shares your sensibilities. what is tasteful to you may be the height of shlock to someone else. you can make it opaque from their side and transparent from yours. you wouldn't even notice. This is one of the reasons why so many sims are so ugly. I'm homosexual, but if my neighbour hung a pic of some naked guy's ass on the outside of their house I would be offended at their lack of courtesy for their neighbours. -Adam True enough. There was a picture of a naked... woman, I believe it was, that was hanging up in... Tan? Or some other PG sim for a good long while. Months at least. The guy did it on purpose, and put up a declaration why. The Lindens never did a thing about it.

From: someone plant a huge tree that blows half into your gallery HAHAHAHA!!!! I will pretend I have never done this. Yes, they have every right to ask and you have every right to say no, then do a mean dance and moon them. But I think you were asking what the "nice" thing to do is and that would be making a wall that is transparent on your side and solid on theirs like someone else suggested.

LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION!

Real Estate is all LOCATION! THis poor landless 2nd lifer took his chances and got a lotto-win on his land plot. He doesn't like your build? His tough luck, if he wanted to capitalize upon the games virtues, he would have made the investment in land of his choice. My first land was LftL, and between me and the local telehub was a HUGE eyesore of a building, this person owned about 2/3rd's of the sim. I didn't complain, I adapted, as we are resigned to do in our Real Life. Tough noogies, he has no asthecial sense of beauty, it's his loss, don't degrade your build. The old saying "Good fences make good neighbors" Is a two way street, he is the one offended, let him waste prims on a fence!

From: someone Originally posted by Cashmere Falcone ...The old saying "Good fences make good neighbors" Is a two way street, he is the one offended, let him waste prims on a fence! Back from a much needed vacation - thanks for all your responses. Cashmere, I really appreciate your feedback - you stated my gut feeling much more eloquently than I did. I also appreciate the feedback from others, such as Kasandra, who had some fairly common-sensical ideas about how to address this type of dispute. With that, I think I'll beta test a one-sided opaque wall to get an idea of the prim impacts. If it's an issue, I'll approach the neighbor about putting up a wall of his own. Kasandra was, also, right on mark when she mentioned my desire to be a good neighbor while not caving in to unreasonable requests. This isn't really that big of a deal -- I mainly just want to manage precedents. Thanks for all the input! Ciao

The reason so many sims are ugly is the crappy builds some people put up. Or the mile high neon spinning for sale sign. But, those things are exactly what makes SL unique. If we wanted to live in a neat and tidy (aesthetically) virtual world, we would've signed up for that other game. You know which one. My point was that as long as he was within the TOS, which is pretty clear about what can/cannot be publicly displayed, it is not his problem, but his neighbors.

Are you sure it's worth the pain of having to look at her each day? Maybe if it was her and Kelly fighting it out, that might be a more interesting backdrop! LMAO
