The show that opened the world of SL to me is having it's "final transmission" soon, and it depresses me. While it isn't exactly the most popular show on G4 (It kinda has a cult following, but little mowe), it really means a lot to me. It has a lot of footage of Pre-1.0 SL (I even saw George's original WM on the show recently). So, I just wanna know if any of the Portal people are left.

I saw a post from Alexis recently, but I haven't seen her IW in a while. I know a few others told me that it was through Portal that they found SL, but I can't remember who they were. So, here, post your Portal memories, and remember a time when MisterD Longwell stood on stage in Kissling, and James had a NY accent.

A very sad Dionysus Starseeker :(

It is a show where, basically, they tell a story though a bunch of virtual worlds. SL was one of those worlds. I was watching the show, and a character (Dirk ruddy, if you think it's relevant) embarrassed himself, so he had to change worlds, and SL is where he went. There was an event around the release of 1.0 where a bunch of SLers were extras in the show. It fit into a geeky niche that seems to be leaving gaming as it becomes more popular.

I've decided that next time I'm IW, I'm going to put my Dave AV up for free 'til the 25th. Probably at my empty, unfinished build. I'll post the co-ords when I have it up.

I was one of those people who came in world because of Portal. I'm really going to miss that show. I wasn't really watching it too much lately because of time but I'm going to make sure I see the last episodes of the show I love.

Where can I watch Portal?

You guys are horrible advertisers, you say stuff about something and post nothing on where it is or how to watch it. :P

You make baby-ad-jesus cry.

The show is on G4TV usually on Wednesdays and Sundays (unless the times have changed since I last knew). It is currently available on Comcast, Insight, Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications, and Mediacom.

Speaking of cable companies, my cable company has changed 4 times in the last 8 years :-p

First there was Continental Cablevision, then MediaOne, then AT&T, then Comcast. :-p

EDIT: I believe Continental Cablevision is now Cox Communications, MediaOne is Time Warner, and AT&T merged with Comcast :p

alas dear Portal, how ye shall be missed...
02-19-2004 15:18
I thought i figured that right .. didn't want to believe it, still don't want to!! i think i actually heard of SL before i saw Portal... just never joined until recently.

I've actually been wondering if they were going to "tape" any more SL "footage" .. and how i could just happen to fly into the "taping" .. like one of those people in the background of "on the street" news reports.. lol

But i shall miss Portal and must figure a way to see the final episode(s).. the house i'm usually at (i have two places i call home) used to get G4, but it got moved into a different tier and now we would have to pay extra for it. :( ..blech

I was even going to send Dave a candy bar called "Drifter" ...LOL!!!

Until after now,

I can't believe they're taking Portal off the air! I was hooked on it for the longest time but then moved and they don't offer it at all where I live now. Sorry to see Dave go.

I'm sorry I haven't put up the AV yet, SL won't go past "Verifying Protocol Version" for me for some reason. I've tried everything: Restarting my computer; deleting and reinstalling; beating my monitor; and nothing has worked *cry*

The end was sad about how he was going to cry because TV shows get cancelled.

Well... 'tis over... but Dave is supposedly working on a new show for G4. yay!!

Ok, anyone who would've gone to get the AV, IM me IW, and I'll send it to you. I finally regained access to SL last night.
