Now can we get our troops the supplies they need? Seriously, what is the problem and what will it take to get vehicles that are properly outfitted for our troops.

Plywood and sandbags don't cut it anymore.

We know that troops are out their in inadequately armored vehicles.

We know that there are 280 tons of explosives floating around the country.

What do we do now to fix it and make the troops safe?

The blame game is over. What's the plan?

Ok I did 6 years in the Army and probably drove pretty much every style of military vehicle short of tanks. From Humvee's to Hemmets. Humvee's were built for cargo not for combat. You put a few hundred pounds of armor on them and you can't get supplies to the troops. Having it both ways isn't practical. Plus there has been a very small number of mine hits and a huge amount of publicity for each one. I know every life is precious, but keeping the supplies moving is more important.

The explosives is a non-issue to me. Anybody can make enough explosives in their kitchen to knock a highrise down in a few days. So even if they didn't steal it they would have made it themselves

I don't condone doing it. It is highly dangerous and i've seen what it can do when it goes wrong.

The fact is Explosives are super easy to make or get. Now if it was a few tons of a chemical agent. Then i might be worried.

Edited to delete 'recipe' for explosives.

There are tens of thousands of tons of explosives floating around Iraq. You're worried about a few hundred more?

Yeah, the 280 tons that are "missing" from that one depot are nothing compared to what was stockpiled in the private homes of Iraqis, or in the basements of the schools.

A few posts up Phil posted a partial 'recipe' for making explosives. His point was that it's relatively easy to make a bomb. Good point, but I would prefer not to post directions on how to do it on this board. I've edited his post, hopefully retaining his main point, but deleting the 'recipe'.

The thing is... the stolen explosives are ready made, and potent.

Sure, RDX isn't all THAT tough to mix up if you know what you're doing... but they have more than just RDX... and both of the compounds that were stolen are extremely powerful. (RDX expodes with about 150% of the force of TNT.... HMX is even more powerful.) Also these are ready made explosives.... they don't HAVE to take the risk involved in 'brew your own.'
