Does anyone know what's going on in/with Boardman? Chunks of previously Linden-owned land opened up? Tons. More than 4608 meters anyway -- I know (he braggingly said) because I just bought that much there. Is this a mixup or something?
If it's not, and I get to keep it, can we start a petition to get rid of those 8-meter and no teraforming rules? I have a project in mind -- newbie-centric even -- that would work better without them.
So, um, what's going on?

Up until now Linden has owned most of Boardman and each resident could buy only one plot of land. However, the fact that the number of primitives is now limited by the amount of land owned in a sim makes this unworkable. The land in Boardman was released as part of a plan to remedy this.
From now on, residents can own as much land as they like. This is also true for Brown, and De Haro. We plan on releasing most of the remaining land in these sims next week. The plans for Green are undecided.
Another change for Boardman and Brown is that the use of the pre-fab house is no longer required as long as the buildings stay within a suburban residence design. The height restrictions will be clarified soon. The building restrictions for De Haro - tents and cabins - will remain as they are.
Also, we will expand the plots in the open-air markets in Boardman and Brown from 16 to 96 square meters to increase the object limit. We will keep the rule that a resident can only own one market stall but owners can also increase their object limit by purchasing other land in the sim. The current stall-owners will be given the first shot at expanding.

Gosh, I wish I had known this before hand, I wouldn't have bought so much land there. As it stands, I guess I'll just have to hoard land there and use it as a sandbox. That's not as helpful to the new players as "Club n00b" was going to be, but rules are rules.

Mmm, yeah thanks for letting me know when you were going to release that land. You also relased some strips of land in Tan that borders Boardman.
So of course in the one day I don't log in, the land rushers in Boardman also purchased the strips in Tan and so I was not allowed to extend my land to the sim edge (by the width of 3 plots, no less).
Ah, fortunately the amount of land owned in a sim isn't tied to... oh wait...
I think this is the first time I can honestly say I'm ticked off with how LL has handled something (and I made it all the way through 1.2!)
All I'm asking for is some notice saying "We're about to release Linden owned land in your sim" so I can get the nice little strip i've been eyeing for a while.
Cheers

it would be nice if the lindens notified people who already owned land in the sim. we won't be just buying up everything we find anymore. so this feature could only help us consolidate our what holdings we can afford in one place for maximum prim use.
i'm sure there's a very good reason that it's being handled like it is. i can't imagine what it is, but i'm sure it's a very good reason.

I too hope that you will notify the residents in Brown when you release the land so that we can make intelligent and hopefully cooperative efforts to expand our property. Many have been waiting patiently for the relief that you promised would be coming. To log on and find out that suddenly the land has been released and then purchased is hardly a relief. I have been holding off building my house for nearly 2 weeks waiting to find out how this be handled. I really feel badly for the people in Boardman and it's surrounding nieghbors, since I noticed that large amounts of the land was not purchased by the current residents there.=(

I'm trying to work with the resident I mentioned, and while she/he is very friendly she/he doesn't quite understand how object allocation works or what it means. So it's been difficult to try to explain to him/her the value of having all one's land in a single sim as opposed to split across two. *Sigh* Is it just me or has 1.2 not only changed the inherent value of land, but also brought a new breed of inconsiderate land rushers (I don't believe the person I'm dealing with is inconsiderate, btw). I'm seeing property snatched up and used without considering current residents --like newbies purchasing a small strip of water on a sim edge and building on it -- thus obscuring what was an ocean view for an long-time resident. I dunno, maybe it's just me, but I always felt that at the very least the long-time resident should be asked first if they want to buy said land. It's just a nice thing to do. Thanks for listening to me complain

I just had a closer look at the north/south borders of Tan and Governor Linden still owns the entire northern border and the western half of the southern border. Apparently only the land on the southeastern border was freed.
Lindens, was this an error?
---
Update: My neighbor graciously agreed to sell me back the bordering land although I do really empathize with her plight at finding a good, sizeable chunk of land on which to build.
Maybe we need more urban planning?

what we need is for the auctions to start. 1.2 came out over the holidays because everybody had more free time to consolidate. the new sims came online during the holidays because everybody would have more free time to survey them.
the auctions are beginning when everybody's having to go back to work all day because...well i don't know really. but i'm sure there's a very good reason.
what really hurts though is not having any group code. we don't even have a timeline for that yet do we?

It's the new prim banking. Buy a nice plot of land somewhere in a sim where you can build a house. Then buy any and every random square of land in that sim as fast as you can. No, you won't be building on those squares, but you will have access to their alotted prims to use on your main square.
I saw someone buying small, free blocks on land under water earlier today. I asked them why they wanted two or three blocks underwater, and they explained it like that.
We traded prim banking by means of 292 prim chests in 1.1 for the inability to find contiguous land in 1.2 due to prim banking.

Hey just want to make my thoughts a little clearer -- I was not specifically talking about the boardman land grab in the above quote. I was talking about smaller grabs in well populated areas (Tan and Aqua to name two) which seemed inconsiderate. Grabbing a bit of the ocean/water to fill out your prims allotment is one thing -- and an unfortunate side-effect of 1.2. Grabbing a bit of water/land, building on it, and blocking someone's view/store/whatever before at least speaking with your neighbor isn't very considerate. That's just my opinion. This is really a separate issue from the Boardman post -- and I apologize for semi-hijacking this thread to conduct my own whining session.

Releasing this land is a good step, but will releasing Linden-owned land in sims like Teal or Chartreuse be happening ever? I understand the intention to maintain the overall topography of the sim, but it's a useful commodity!

What they need is land that can't be edited by anyone, not even the owner, or even better, land that can only be edited to a small difference from its original form.
