A slight 1.2 concern

So....I initially freaked out about 1.2.

This is the end of the brilliant new game I just discoved!!!!!

Then I thought about it. Its really not so bad.

It has the effect of equalizing nearly everybody ingame.

Crazy Guy X who wants to own 8 sims can, but he better be paying for the server resources.

The rest of us, however, will get much more equally sized plots, and will not have to worry about taxes anymore.

Cool 8)

And this mechanism for changing L$->$$ means that although I don't think you will be able to rich via second life, you will be able to use your L$ to pay for your land, somehow :-)

Anyways, a question about 1.2 stipends:
Chat only users get paid a certain stipend.

Paying users will get paid a certain additional stipend, probably dependant upon their level of service (Crazy Guy X paying 195$/month is gonna get a big stipend).

What about the grandfathered lifers? Do we just get the chat only stipend?

That kind of sucks a little.....

How about pegging us at the $25/month level (same as land, right?)

Where did you read that we (lifers) wouldn't get the same stipend as a regular user? I don't see that information anywhere, so I'm curious to learn about that??? Thanks, Ingie

Actually, I'm very excited about these changes. I'm not terribly social and have never achieved much money, and have had to remove many of my builds due to lack of funds, so this will enable me to keep my things up. How wonderful!!!

With respect to stipends (soon to be known as grants)...

People who pay the one-time access fee will get a small $L grant and a reputation bonus only in the weeks they log in. If they don't log in, they get no grant, no bonus, hence no balance increase.

People who are paying the recurring fees (monthly, quarterly, annual) and lifetime members will get regular weekly grants, plus are eligible for reputation bonuses.

The amount of land you own does not affect your grant amount.

My thoughts exactly. I was still a bit unclear about that, but i seriously doubted that the Lindens would remove the rating bonuses. Land owners don't make money, more than likely they lose money. The grant amount doesn't look at the land you own, and every paying memeber whether it is monthly fees, or old lifetimers (not the 10 ones) will get a base stipend, plus whatever ratings/calling card/ dwell bonuses we had gotten before. (at least, that's what i hope happens). We won't get as much money as before, because the stipend was mostly used just to offset taxes, but i think it's still a great idea to reward users who are nice and have great builds. This isn't turning into a money hungry society people, in fact, they're leveling out the playing field. Those who buy whole sims still need to pay, in L$ for their land. That means that someone can't just jump in the game, and buy a whole sim for themselves. They still need to earn the L$ to pay for their sim. This is what I gathered from the big impromptu town meeting last night.

So... what about current non-lifer users that are grandfathered? Will we be treated as lifers or non-payers as far as grants are concerned?

Also.. the only diffrence as far as grants go between new one-tiem access fee users and grandfathered lifers is that lifers get money even when they don't log in?

I'd start the new one-time payment people at a much lower level.. you can always give them more if it isn't enough, but if you are giving TOO much away for free, taking it away in the future is hardly an option. You need to have some major benifits to subscribing to make people WANT to pay. But of course, thats just my very insightfull opinion... ;-)

No, there will not be a stipend cap under the new system.
