Single points of failure

Hi Lindens,

As the world map is at the moment, in order for someone to fly from the "old world" to the "new world", one must cross Plum, Tan, and Boardman. This means that if any of these three sims fail, or become full, there will be two disconnected pieces of land that noone can fly between.

Is there any chance you can put another sim in between the two land masses? This will increase reliability significantly.

(No, I don't like paying to teleport, why do you ask? ;> )

I disagree, the land value is extreamely high in those sims because of that fact. I payed over 5 times what I should have to have the same amount of land in Tan as I had back in immaculate. That fact is the reason the worlds are connected as they are. If it changes, I expect to be reimbursed, since the land value will drop significantly.

(one sim connecting two large land masses means more flythrough traffic.)

and anyways, all of us have a map of the world, teleporting over a dead sim is simple as PI. (pun intended). and it costs abot $5. (ex if Tan goes down, just teleport from boardman to plum)

Chris the land is only double the normal cost.
The rest, I agree with.

If the land in Tan is expensive because it's a bottleneck, why is Aqua expensive too? Why are Boardman and Plum not expensive? (If Boardman went down, you couldn't cross diagonally from Kissling into Tan, I don't think.) For that matter, why is Welsh not expensive, since it's the only way to get to the eastern sims?

According to Haney Linden's original post about the new sims, "Two of these will be premium regions that feature lots of coastline and a higher price tag." To me that implied that it was the coastline that was the reason for the higher land prices.

And as for being reimbursed if other sims open, won't you get the same price you paid if you release the land? I think you might make a case for reimbursement if the Lindens change it from a premium area to a regular area without first giving you a chance to release the land at the higher price. But otherwise, I wouldn't see any justification for it. You didn't buy a guarantee of high flyover traffic.

you get reimbursed what you paid for it. when we changed to the land system we have now, i made about 3k selling and rebuying my land because i bought it at ahigher price(reimbursed in full).

I would rather have some free WayPoints ala Charlies suggestions connecting the two welcome areas. :)

Waypoints are better, but they're not here yet. Actually I think the World menu should just be given a Teleport sub-menu containing Home, Ahern Welcome Area, and Lime Welcome Area -- sort of like waypoints, except accessible from anywhere, and with locations that were already chosen to be central to a lot of places.
