Now first off i want to say SL is the most unique game i've ever played ... and with that I've played the top 5 games around and might I add spent many a dollar with monthly fees. You (Lindenlab) need to read what your CUSTOMERS are posting. I just read a post about someone losing quite a bit of they're inventory. Now I am new to SL and cannot log on with any of my three accounts.... 30$ a month may not be a loss for you but reliability is a VERY BIG issue for the paying CUSTOMERS. With that note my advice is drop every single side project and get busy updating whatever it is that is continually causing these crashes. Great games are first and foremost built with reliability (when you say its up its up) no pun intended :-) Get the core gamers taken care of and word of mouth spreds> Do a good thing people tell 3 friends ... do a bad thing and people tell everyone .... get the hint ? I being a nw person have read that this has been going on for a year ... well I hate to say it but i will not be around for a year .. my hats off to those whom have the patience to do so. In closing READ READ READ your (lindenlab) CUSTOMERS posts. Well its time for sleep gonna go to sleep and party like its no tomorrow. So sorry to be like this I'm usually more patient but am new here in SL land and they're is just way too many bugs in game for me .... probably going to be a 1 time monthly subscriber the way it looks now. Please take heed of what your hearing from me the newb and the vetran players.

1. The "enter" key exists.
2. These "crashes" involve hardware failure! IE HD disc shooting out and hitting Andrew!
3. SL is THE most updated game with new content. Find me a game with this much support and new content added.
4. This going on for a "year" is total BS.
5. I'm not gonna start ranting about how sl is the first of it's kind... the whole game is pretty much on the LL side (ie more hardware to manage, more things can go wrong... blah blah)

Nexus just go take a look at all the MMO games out there. Content added weekly expansions added and all with very limited downtime. Now this i understand (downtime) It's going to happen, I play other games one is by SOE thats new and they've had to do some patches with great success. I have the feeling that there is something very wrong with a company that has these challenges with there current game and they talk about adding more and more. The core game is unstable in it's current state and will not get any better if there isn't a major overhaul soon.

My outlook on this SL/LL thing is....don't kill the child before its had a chance to have a family.

Don't undermine it, there isn't any competition. None. It isn't out there. We need this 'seed' to germinate and become more than what it is. It depends on your expectations I guess, but I think a lot of good stuff has been done, it just needs to get more cohesive, or at the very least, opened to the extent that others can write clients/servers for it. (Well, in the future perhaps.)

I like SL mostly, but what I don't get is why people seem to just want to bury it, in all likelyhood scaring any investor away from trying something similar. "Look what happened to Linden Lab"....

And yet, we still pine for the 'Metaverse'....we won't get it via self-destruction...

I for one am happy to put up with the downtime and I know that SL is going to grow into something bigger and Linden Lab needs the community support by not having problems rammed down their throat. I know there are valid complaints on some of the problems, don't get me wrong. But it seems like everyone has to jump on the bandwagon with their own thread when anything does go wrong. At least the devs actually acknowledge we are here and communicate problems and ask for our opinion on most developments unlike other major game houses(SOE(in relation to SWG, don't have any experience with Everquest I/II)).

points out the mu** have been around sense the creation of the internet. Comparing a new tech to old tech. One has had a significantly longer time to spit polish it's fisod. And I do remember the early days of mu**. Just a few years ago several minute save times would happen in a mu** every couple of hours. Because they would crash. And until recently involved the process of storing data by value, with out any content creator interface. Let alone support for multi sentence descs. Or desc larger then 256 chars. I've yet to see a mu** suport multi computer suport. Or take in / send as much data as sl.

I thinke very one would like LL to be as responcable as sonic.net. With the 3d progrmaing skill rivaling carmac, half life 2 and unreal egine 3. (No offence intended, sl dose some thing no game dose) Have the hardware only matched by god or apple. And a price point that even a hobo on the street corner could aford to own ten sims and have about a trillion Lindons.
But if the mesure of success is perfection, and ll is only run by humans. Then there is only failure. Perfection is a myth that leave humans with no mesure other then infintiy to compare theme selfs with.
But yes I wish there were no 12+ hour down times. I wish sls had many usefull commands. Teleport, write to note card, chrome, updateSitPos. And that the sl rendering engine support some basics things like clipping.

From an Ignorant Standpoint

I dont know if I want the lindens reading every thread. I mean I have learned alot from saying some pretty stupid things on these threads and getting feedback that put me in my place. I have seen the Lindens Respond to threads. Also right now I want them to work on the issue at hand not read all these forum threads.

I don't think most people realize everything that LL have done recently though. They've pulled this game, literally from their A$* and built it into this amazing thing. About a year and a half ago, this game had just gone gold, and the number of residents and the number of sims was very limited. I've been here since launch day, and about 90 percent of the game time is uptime. That's extremely amazing considering the new technology and new style of game, I applaud LL for that. Also considering that LL is a small company running a HUGE MMO, that in and of itself I give kudos to them for. Most MMO's have hundreds of people working on them, from development to grid monkeys, and so forth. Most of those ones that have weekly updates, the users don't do anything other than level up. This game is different. The users create the content, the lindens just give us more control. This world is a give and take, the lindens give us features, we take them, use them, and give back to the community. It's the nature of the beast. And downtime will also be the nature of the beast, you just need to accept that.

Anybody good with estimating how many hours it would take to read all these posts and write up a summaries to submit to the necessary lindens. Then how many people would be needed to accomplish it all with a good structure in place, you know every single day. What an average pay of something like this as a job or do we have volunteers out there? And how much that may increase the cost to play this game or do we have volunters out there? They are recruiting lindens maybe for this reason.

You're right -- we can't read all the threads, but we try to make sure we see as many as we can because your support and feedback has been invaluable.

We are listening to what you're telling us. Our first priority is solidifying and scaling the core systems, while we also upgrade hardware and add staff.

For some details on what the dev team is working on, take a look at the transcript of Cory Linden's recent town hall meeting.

Of ALL the MMORPGs I have ever played. In toto SL has had less down time by far. Alot of these problems have been fairly recent. EQ2 just had a recent problem that left the game out of commision for 2 or 3 days solid.
